Like the trade. Two young guys with lots of upside. The team needed a huge shakeup. Like others have said, this give Treliving the opportunity to go out and get that scoring RW. New coach, new players; already looking forward to the season.

The Flames still need one more good top 6 forward, preferably a right handed #2c.

I don't think any one has said that, in fact it feels like people are really down on Hanifan and Lindholm.

But the fact is that there really is no debate between Ferland and Lindholm, and Hanifan is younger and has a lot of things going for him.

I really liked Hamilton, but at the end of the day, this trade brings two core players to the Flames for the price of one core player, a accessory forward and a prospect that was probably never going to wear Flames Silks. At the same time the Flames get younger, and get a longer lifespan with their group of core players.

This might not be a raping of Carolina, but I don't see it as a loss by Treliving. But I can't judge it until we see this team on the ice.

If this is about Culture shock as well, then it could be a good thing.

I'll say this and I think this will be a farily reasonable expectation if there's some chemistry between Lindholm and out top FW pairing. He will score 25. help elevate Monahans and Gaudreau points totals while becoming one of the best all around lines in the league.

I really think once they see how dogged Lindholm is on puck possession and how good he is at puck control down low will really sing a new tune.

But this is all talk. But I for one am more excited to watch Flames hockey this coming season than I was yesterday.

This build as it sits now just feels more polished and well rounded.

This trade is a godamned home run. It's entirely possible Ferland will be out of the league in 3 years while Lindholm is going to be an excellent player for another decade or more. Hanifin might be a more complete player than Hamilton _this year_ and can anchor the D corps for another 12-15. Fox is a good prospect and may be the one piece we really end up pining after.

I can't believe Carolina would trade them both.

I get the future asset management arguments for sure.

But as a jealous fan having just watched the Cup finals I want moves that will get us back to the playoffs now. Are our chances better today than yesterday in that regard? Maybe.

Hoping Tre is not done.

I feel like if these 2 players played for any team other than Carolina they would be rated much higher. 2 recent #5 overalls who have shown good improvements and proved they will be bare minimum a top 4 defense and top 6 forward.

I was called a troll for dumping on BT and Peters, I've been a Flames fan longer than a lot of peeps have been alive and have spent way more with the Flames than they deserve.

Don't be so sure, he is a troll. People read a lot of stuff and then pipe up when they disagree with something. They have that right and it's the heated debates that make this site good, not groupthink.

Right now there is a lot of polemic stuff around this team. Until they start winning games, it will probably continue.

Safe to safe if the rebuild honeymoon wasn't over last year it definitely is now.

I'm annoyed a bit that Fox wouldn't sign with the Flames. I'm happy to see Hamilton go as he is the exact problem with the Flames. Zero compete level. Ferland also with the lack of compete. Still think they haven't solved Right wing and there had better be another one in the fold before the season starts.

But if the two coming in at least like to battle then that's an improvement. Be harder to play against and better defensively and IMO their chances go up.

Repeated for truth.

Plus you have 2 years to sign a player from CHL or you lose them, 4 from NCAA.

I like the trade...don't know about the off-ice issues, but from an on-ice perspective I thought Dougie was talented but somewhat lazy; never felt he was really out there working his butt off. And yes, he took really stupid penalties.

Love Ferly - great player, great character...but. Probably at the top of his game and expectations for him. Don't see a lot of further upside in him. (I wish I did...I really do.)

Don't know much about either guy coming in, but I've got a good pal down in Carolina and I'll be looking for info! But even just on a stats and "opportunity" perspective, I like what I see. I see two core guys coming in and only one going out. To me, that's enough of a win. Don't care about Fox - if he were to be another Tom Erixon...well, bleh.

Our d core didn't look elite with Hamilton, so let's see how this plays out. Definite upgrade to our forward group. All GMs know what they are doing, so unless there is a Hoffman esque situation most player for player trades are a wait and see type thing to see how the players fit..

IMO this is not true. In this era of the NHL, teams actually spend a lot of money in development coaches who regularly visit all their prospects to work with them on and off the ice.

For example, Scott Nichol (then Preds head of development) would fly out every weekend to watch Jimmy Vesey play and work with him.

This is essentially free private coaching for the player

Hamilton gone, Stajan gone, trade Bennett and 85% of our dumb penalties vanish.
