Why do the Flames always trade with crap teams? Bring in winners not guys who underachieve. Guys with heart would be nice.

Ok, how about some stats then:

2017-18

3 goals the first month of the year. Bumped finally off top line.

14 from 5 Nov to 11 Jan after Jagr got hurt and Ferland back on top line.

2 goals from Jan 12 to April 7 in crunch time.

2016-17

4 goals from start of year until Jan 26
9 goals Jan 27 to Mar 9 - moved to top line
1 goal the rest of the regular season
0 playoff goals or points on the top line

2015-16
4 goals in 71 games

Again, since Jan 2017 this is the guy that is the top line RW. When move off that line, it’s not as if he’s lit the world on fire on lower (3rd or 4th) line duty.

I doubt any players like talking to the media. But it's part of the job. Why does Hamilton think he's better than everyone else? Do you think Gaudreau wanted to be there?

To me

The core of this team improved today.

If there were character issues, then hopefully this trade is a heart punch to the rest of the core.

We're better up front, we might be lesser on the blueline, but I think we have to see how hanifan steps in first.

Lindholm is inconsistent too, but he's 3 years younger than Ferland with more upside and flexibility (C/W). He's a top 6 forward, Ferland isn't.
Lindholm also has 125 games more NHL experience than Ferland does.

Ferland also brings a lot more to the game than Lindholm does when they're not scoring. Being physical is still important in hockey. Not to mention the beast mode gear Ferland has in playoff hockey. Game changing.

I mean its done now and I hope Lindholm is a great Flame but I think Ferland is getting undersold around here now.

I'm sure none do. It's just not something that bothers me at all if someone doesn't go. It's all a dog and pony show anyway.

I'll never read all this to catch up ...

When we were discussing this as a potential deal a few days ago I pointed out that they have to have an internal call on Hamilton that will decide it. I said that the Luobardias comments pretty much put me in the "this guy is getting traded" camp so it doesn't come as a shock. There was just so much damn smoke ... the brother ... uppity from the Bruins, then Luobo and his compete question.

To me deals are never going to happen until you feel uncomfortable about it.

When we discussed Lindhom and Hanafin for Hamilton it felt too good to me, so I doubted it would happen in that form. I expected a toss in. I do admit that the toss ins went beyond perfect and into uncomfortable so that suggests it's either fair, or maybe a tough of an overpay for the Flames.

Ferland with one more year left was either going to walk or get paid too much to be up and down. If Fox wasn't going to sign than his value is somewhat diminished.

So I guess my summary is an overpay to get what you want, which to me is not a bad thing to see from your GM.

Hanafin and Lindholm to me are now part of the Flames core, and Ferland wasn't. So that's one out two in for key players at a key age to build around.

So this isn't a "wow we hozed those guys!" day, but I think it's going to be an important trade in this team's current history.

Not even the spirit of Gordie Howe could have made that team in Carolina a winner. I'm tired of people speculating on players "heart and desire", or that players on winning teams automatically have some kind of mystical link to the spirit god of win at all costs.

You can have the highest-value asset management in the world, but if your balance overly favours trading performance for potential to do so, then you'll never actually win anything.

How often do winning teams jettison core players?

"Guys with heart" is such a cliche nonsense term. Didn't we also bring in Brouwer because of his heart and grit?

I wish Ferly all the best but we got the younger, more potential player who has more years of consistent 35 to 40+ seasons.

Not often but Hamilton could have got a top line RW.

Hamilton did not want to sign with the Bruins. The teams was loaded with proven winner veteran leaders who are still contributing in a major way.

Why would people think that a player that has no loyalty or attachment to a team that brought him into the league would be great as part of the new team's core?

Also Hamilton tried to lower expectations of his world view.

Favorite player: Bouwmeester....

I would think that there are no other players in the league that would at age 18-20 would want to emulate Bouwmeester....

Far more of an upside on all the other players involved in this deal.

I hated it at first.
Now I'm less angry.
Biggest concern, outside of the inclusion of Fox as throw in, is the Flames could not score, and gave up another 12 goals in this deal.
