If his goals came once every four games, would that make them worth more? Do wins at the start of the season count less than wins at the end?
Total output matters far, far more than the evenness of the distribution of that output.

To me Hamilton is not a guy you go to war with so i dont undestand the franchise D talk. I'm ok to see him go.

This is false. Let's not forget Hanafin isn't exactly a stud in his own end and was getting sheltered minutes in Carolina.

CP is a funny place. Hates Bouwmeister but loves Hamilton. They are the same.

Perhaps Ferland returns as a UFA in a year?

I'm not a fan of the trade, but willing to wait and see before I start calling for Tre to be pelted with tomatoes and lettuce.
Dougie has a skill set that isn't easily replaced, and father time will get Gio eventually. I do like Hanifin, and hopefully he develops into a top two guy.
I'm not as high on Lindholm. He never seemed to take that next step under Bill Peters. He will probably increase his point totals if he plays the right side with Monahan and Gaudreau, but who wouldn't?

I don't like it, but I'll take a wait-and-see approach before raging.
IMO Fox was the best prospect in the system. But with that said, he didn't progress much this year. Plus there was the question as to whether he'd re-sign. Either way, it's good to see the Flames capitalize on a great 3rd round pick.
I do like Lindholm; he still has potential. If he ever gets 60+ points, this trade could be a win. I think he's a pretty big upgrade over Ferland.
As for Hanafin, I'm not a huge fan. He simply does not have high end offensive abilities. I don't think he'll ever be anything close what what Hamilton is or will be.
But at least Hanafin is durable. And at least the Flames might save some cap space for now.

This assumes they just sit on Ferlands expiring year and do nothing and that a 3rd or a 4th for Fox next summer doesn't happen. Both are unlikely.

Fox is one of the top rated dmen in the NCAA, and is worth WAY more than a throw in because he might not sign. I mentioned it in the other thread; Erixon got us 2 seconds and Roman Horak.
Do the math, and at this moment we lost. Big time. Maybe in the end we come out on top, but as they say...a bird in hand is worth 2 in the bush. Hamilton is worth FAR more than Hanifin, let elone Hamilton PLUS Fox to even out Lindholm/Ferland.
This trade straight up sucks.

What is Hamilto so great at?
He has a great shot. What else?
Hanifin doesn't need to score 20G to be better. He needs to defend better and kf Hamilton is the benchmark then he is probably close if not there already.

If there is potential for Hanafin to be a better player than Hamilton, then his ceiling is most definitely higher. There is no guarantee he reaches it, but the higher ceiling is still certainly there.

Adding a guy with the toolbox of Lindholm sure gives them flexibility, especially if they can target another winger like JVR as well.
I've been a Hamilton supporter but I really don't see Hanifin as much of a downgrade if any. He's certainly a more rounded defender.

A 3rd or fourth rounder or 3rd or 4th overall pick?
They did just acquire 2 5th overall picks in their drafts

Agreed, Canes D is too young...who is going to bail out Dougie now?

I love this trade!! This is the trade that tre will be judged on for all time, it clearly addresses needs but it’s a huge gamble. Could pay off big time though

yes it does matter, in the last 36 games in a playoff push he didn't produce anything for the team.
so yes.. streaks matter to point and when in the season they are, he didn't produce anything in the part of the season we needed goals.
goal scorers will find the net when needed, and in a playoff push he didn't score anything.
