24.5 million in cap space. Even with re-signing the RFA’s that is a lot of money for Treliving to go big game hunting this summer. Tavares (huge pipe dream), Neal, van Rismsdyk, Kovalchuk, etc. let’s just hope any signing is more of the Frolik variety than the Brouwer variety.

This is simply not true. He may end up as good or better than Hamilton but he does not have an "undoubtedly" higher ceiling.

Exactly. I love Ferland, but Lindholm makes our top six even more deadly. Two way player with more talent and higher ceiling than Ferland.
Monohan/Gadreau/Lindholm
Thachuk/Backlund/Frolik

So Bennett at 26 points is a bust and huge disappointment, Lindholm at 44 points is a stud in the making and will solve our goal scoring woes. With 16 last year. Yay.

My solace is that not only Lindholm and Hanifin look to be both good players going forward, Beasley would make their names sound good during goal announcements. 4-5 syllables!
I guess that Fox was probably not going to sign even after moving Dougie out.

For all of those high on Ferland, are you forgetting his 2018 part of 2017?
15 of goals came before 2018 this season
0 in the last 10 games of the season
1 in last 27 games of the season
2 in last 35 games of the season
4 goals in first 4 games of 2018, and then 2 goals for the rest of 2018
He was very streaky and hot at the beginning of the year. without those streaks he'd have 10 goals maybe?
5 goals in 5 straight
4 goals in 4 straight
9 goals due to a hot streak, probably coincided with streaks of monahan and gaudreau.
So lets not pretend he had a consistent goal scoring, or had a really high ceiling.

Warming up to this trade.
The Flames sell high on Hamilton and Ferland. Would've liked to have a seen a pick back from Carolina.

One way to think about this is the flames got two core players under contract control for one guy under control and two guys who got be lost for nothing as free agents

Let me know when Bennett can put together multiple seasons of 40 plus points.

Guys when we are talking about players can we please spell their name right. This is how Tkachuk is spelled, this is how Hanifin is spelled, this is how Lindholm is spelled. Now continue arguing

I feel like I'm watching different players when people talk about Hamilton being elite and a no 1 defenceman.
Offensively, yes, he is elite. Defensively, he has not gotten better since he came here.
There is a reason why he got minimal PK time, all-star votes, Norris votes, commentor mentions about his two-way game, team Canada mentions, etc...
Somewhat lost in this as well is I think Gio's potential was being limited by having to cover for Hamilton. Gio played his best hockey with Brodie. Brodie played his best hockey with Gio. I am really excited to see that tandem reunited.

I think I like this. I think Giordano covered a lot of Hamilton's holes. There's a good chance Brodie fills in and we don't lose a step.
Fox had questionable value.
Losing Ferland sucks and I love the guy but he's a 3rd liner imo.
Need to look more into Hanifin but there's a lot to like and Lindholm as a C/RW fits on this team perfectly. We also got young and more control on longterm contracts.

Glad that Ferland got his life turned around. The team was very patient with him.
But he's wasn't a permanent solution on the top six.

Not saying that I expected a shake-up trade, but if there was going to be one, I felt that it would be Hamilton. Just doesn't seem to have that give-a-#### factor.
Not throwing him under the bus because I don't know (and none of us know). Just saying that (if there was a problem), he was my guess.

Van Reimsdyk would be so perfect for the PP
