You don't think Peters played a big role in this via providing Treliving input on the players?

My initial reaction is that we got boned. We gave up the best player in the deal and a RW when we are desperately shallow in that position already. I do think Hamilton and Ferland are somewhat overrated by a lot of the fan base. I guess it just depends on how the rest of the off season plays out now. As always, I will take a wait and see approach, but off the cuff, I am not too confident that this will be a good move.

I honestly feel like Treliving got grinded hard on this deal. This was the trade he wanted. A right shot C/W and a high end Dman that has a ton of potential.
This deal is full of risk for the Flames but their scouts and Peters probably all feel strong about the players we got. We get 2 of the 3 youngest pieces in the deal. At the end of the day Treliving wanted to shake up the room.

Hamilton without Giordano will be interesting to see. If he keeps up or falls back in his play. No secret Giordano greatly helps his partners.

That was definitely Hamilton and Giordano's fault right? Had nothing to do with awful coaching and depth?

Honestly we don't know if Fox wasn't going to sign so lets stop with the assumptions. Who gives a crap about Ferland but like other people said its all about maximizing perceived value. Dougie's was at an all time high, Ferlands was also, and Fox we must conject was still going to sign because you do not use a prospect of that caliber as a 'throw in'.
Extremely torn on this one because I look at Lindholm and I don't see scorer, I see Mikael Backlund. Hanifin is great, I love that, but we are paying for his potential at this point and I hope to god he realizes that potential. Value for value, as it stands, we gave up too much. But like with all trades the result will write itself for years to come.

Incorrect. He was fourth in icetime amonst defencemen.
But then again he's young and improving. Give it 3-5 years and I really think people will look back and laugh at the reactions in this thread. This could be a huge step forward for this organization.

This is where we hope Brodano is still a thing that can work, with Brodie on the right side. Until we can get hanifin settled in here.

But is that because Hamilton is "elite" or is that because Hamilton was sheltered by Giordano who also made Brodie look "elite" just 2 seasons removed when they were rated a top pairing in the league?
Hanifin @ 21yo = 10g - 22a - 32pts - 21PIM
Hamilton @ 21yo = 7g - 18a - 25pts - 42 PIM

I can see why Flames fans might not love this, but I also think this is a probably a highly contract related trade.
Fox - might not sign
Ferland - UFA in 1 year
hamilton - UFA in 3 years
vs.
the potential of locking up Lindholm and hanifin for 7 years.
FWIW, Lindholm is potentially UFA in 2 years, hanifin in 4, but the potential is there to sign them long term immediately.

Sure but it's not like he's some stud D suddenly.
And I have nothing against him, there's definitely potential there but this is a downgrade for at least 1-2 years.

People are saying it because there’s a good chance Hanifin evolves into as good or better a player than Hamilton.
|
Yeah, I think the reservations are that it's trading for a lot of potential. No doubt Hanifin has a ton of potential upside still. So if Hanifin and Lindholm continue to progress this will look like a lot more even of a deal down the road. Although Hanifin has a lot of similarities to Bouwmeester and the honeymoon didn't last long for him. That being said, you'd think the second leading scoring defenceman in the league who is right-handed, young and on a great contract would get a king's ransom.

Have to believe that Bill Peters gave Treliving enough inside knowledge to be confident that this was the right move. Treliving knows he can't have a major stumble on this.

Hamilton is a franchise defenseman
Hanifin might be, and had better be if the Flames want to have any chance of competing in the future.
I feel so bad for Gaudreau and Monahan who have to waste away their careers until UFA
