This is only a win for the Flames if Lindholm fits in well with Monahan and Gaudreau.

First reaction was that I hated the deal. I thought Dougie for Lindholm and Hanifin would get it done.

That being said, both Dougie and Ferly had big years due to their linemates. We sold high on both for sure.

Dougie has had non stop character issue whispers, and if Fox indicated he was going to test free agency, his value plummets league-wide. But Ferland hurts for me as I was a huge fan, but I agree he's due for an overpayment as he's amazing when Johnny and Monahan are clicking, but fairly invisible in any other situation.

Lindholm and Hanifin are both core pieces though. I think we're underrating both here mostly.

Default Elias Lindholm and Noah Hanifin to Flames for D. Hamilton, Micheal Ferland, Adam Fox

Clearly, this is not true. Otherwise you believe that Treliving consumated the deal for just Hamilton and Ferland, and then figured he may as well throw in Fox, “just because.”

Carolina just waited Treliving out. Seems like he gets antsy when he wants his players. Probably threw in Ferland and Fox to get the deal done. Instead of working hard, maybe needs to start working smart.

So I guess we have to hope over the next few years that Hanifin becomes as good as Hamilton is RIGHT NOW? And we get to inflate Lindholms stats so he can get paid more too? Good trade

At first glance, you hate the deal

Long term, it’s the best deal. We can sign both of these players long term.

He remains a bit of a risky passer in the offensive zone, but in the defensive and neutral zones he’s trustworthy with the puck on his stick. In fact, he took a big step in the neutral zone this year.
When transitioning between zones, Hanifin is one of the most infrequent puck dumpers in the league, preferring to skate with it on his stick or find a teammate with a pass. He failed a bit more frequently on his controlled exit attempts this season, which dropped his controlled exit rate, but you can see in the attempt rate that the process is still strong.
Quote:
Where Hanifin stands out to an absurd degree is in his controlled entries. He is a huge outlier among defencemen with his ability to gain the blue line, and his unwillingness to just settle for a dump-and-chase. Defencemen who lead the rush aren’t very common in the NHL, so having one guy who can do it can really change a team’s attacking strategy, just as the Predators do with Roman Josi.

To my understanding Hanifin played 3rd pairing in Carolina. So I wouldn't exactly call him a Dougie Hamilton replacement.

In one of the announcement tweets someone listed a poll asking who won and the results were Carolina 45% Calgary 55%. Looks to be even then.

If Hanifin becomes that franchise defenceman as he was projected then I'll be ok with it.

I'm guessing Francis is readying his barbed know it all opinion piece as we speak.

Lots of impartial hockey fans on all types of social media claiming the Flames came away with the W or that it's a very even trade.

When taking the Flames Fan glasses off, I think I'm okay with this now.

Especially considering they'll probably still move Skinner.

I expect Ferland in Carolina to look like the Ferland from the last quarter of last season.

I don't care so much about fox. If he did sign it would be a while till he was a flame. Valimaki is much closer and helps to absorb that.

Giving up Ferland was unnecessary because he is a fit on the top line and scores. Lindholm is more of a playmaker, while somewhat better. We're supposed to be adding to the forwards I think though, not giving away goal scoring in the process.

The stats guys may say that, but it's not like it got us anywhere.

Overall, the value is heavily slanted against us.

But I think this trade improves our team.

Hamilton has been traded for less-than-expected twice now, so I think there’s something that GMs see beyond the numbers. I really liked him, so I’m sad about it.

Fox hurts, but like trading away picks, it’s an unknown until they’re real.

I think losing Ferland is the most frustrating part for me. Not because I think he’s got much more left in his growth, but because this trade does not actually help our RW depth.

This is the best and most accurate calm down and breathe for second assessment of the trade.
