Elias Lindholm and Noah Hanifin to Flames for D. Hamilton, Micheal Ferland, Adam Fox
I don’t like this deal, but as usual the overreactions in this thread are typically way over the top.
I think this—more than anything—indicates that Ferland and Hamilton were players that Treliving targeted to move.
I think the fact that Fox was included also indicates that the team was not confident he could be re-signed.
This trade essentially re-makes the entire look of the top-six and the team’s defense, and I like the players coming back A LOT. It feels like an overpayment, but without seeing the on-ice results I will remain somewhat ambivalent.
After this the Flames have a lot of really intriguing, young forward pieces: along with Monahan, Gaudreau, and Tkachuk, now also Lindholm added to a group that includes Bennett and Jankowski.
The Flames defense is starting to look more like it is in a stage of transition to much younger players.

Lindholm has played centre for most of his career, no sure thing he goes to wing and plays with Gaudreau/Mony.
I also have no idea about Peters but I assume the days of having lines set in cement with no changes are done anyways.

Now move Brodie and Bennett for Stone and Pageau from Ottawa. Big upgrades overall.
Losing Fox probably depended on his willingness to sign, but every time I have watched him I see Dennis Wideman - Dman that gets points, doesn't play defence and skating seemed a little slow. If Ferland scored 20 again with Gadreau this year his contract to resign him next year would have at least doubled to $3.5M per year.

I am surprised to see Ferland go; yes, the Flames “sold high” on him, but it takes away one more physical presence. We will see what Tre has up his sleeve to replace that physicality

Flames got fleeced. Dougie should have been traded 1 for 1 not a stupid package deal.

I fully admit that I’m hoping Elias has more offense than he has shown
And guessing the Flames think that too
I do think he will be a good fit on the top line

I’m in shock. I clicked the thread when the title was just Lindholm and Hanafin for Dougie. Thought “hey, that’s a steep price but I think it’s worth it!”. Then scrolled down to see Ferland and Fox included as well.
HUGE gamble by Treliving — we needed scoring punch but gave up the highest goal scoring defenceman in the league last year and a top 6 forward that just scored 20 goals. I can see this ending badly regardless of what happens to Fox (don’t even get me started).
Sad to see Ferland go — one of my favorites on the roster.

I hope there is more to this as far as ufa signings or more trades something anything. If the team starts the season with the usual losing record he should and hopefully will be fired. IMO we are a worse team as it stands right now.

Lindholm is better, especially as an all around player than Ferland, younger too.
Hanifin quite possibly could surpass Dougie or at least match him. 21 years old. Lots of room to grow. As well, with Dougie, seems like there is something up with him. 3rd team in his young career already? hmm.
Fox, who knows how he is gonna turn out, probably wasn't going to sign anyway with our D situation. Maybe we could've used him in another trade though. That's the part that gets me, I think.
Locker room probably needed a shake up.

I tend to agree with you here-thanks for a reasonable take amongst a sea of overreactions.

My issue is we give up the proven better players at this point.
This could be great if Fox wasn't going to sign and Lindholm flourishes as a forward and Hanifin reaches his potential.
But those are "ifs".
Not going to panic as is the norm with so many here... but don't like this deal on the surface.
Hopefully it comes up all Millhouse for us.
Still think another deal is coming.

If TC admits to ambivalence or not liking the deal, it is a very bad sign.

I would have preferred Brodie had been moved instead, but overall I'm ok with this trade. Team needed a shake-up in the worst way. We've added some offensive punch to the top 6 in Lindholm, and Hanifin is no slouch either. That and the guy is still young with plenty of upside.
Anyone think Tre is done here? Or does he still go after a UFA on July 1st?

Lindholm isn't miles ahead of Ferland.
Ferland is actually the better goal scorer. Lindholm is more well rounder player.
