The Dougie thing is so puzzling. It seems like every draft and trade deadline his name is out there and yet he's such a good defenceman. Sure he's a bit soft defensively, and sure he takes far too many penalties, but all other aspects of his game are incredible. This is a guy who finished top 15 in Norris voting on a team where he was criminally under-utilized on the powerplay. Despite the lack of powerplay time with the first unit relative to what he should have gotten, he still finished with 17 goals and 44 points. With adequate first unit powerplay time he probably finishes with another 6-10 points and finishes top ten in voting. For whatever reason, despite his results, coaches don't seem to trust him with as much as time as you would think he would get.
You think it has to be something off-ice then, but by all accounts he's an intelligent kid from a good family. Maybe he's too smart for his 'own' good, according to Hockey Men? I really don't know. I know the team wasn't happy that he was on the first plane to Phoenix after the season so he could hang out with Freddie...is that a big enough reason for the Flames to sever ties with him? The last straw? Who knows.
The whole thing reeks of a trade where the Flames will probably take the L. I'm not trying to be negative, but these situations almost always result in the trading team coming out looking poorly.

McGuire stating that the canes expect to have three first rounders tonight including one from a skinner deal and one from hanifin.
Well we don't have one so unless it's a three way deal.....
Please don't let Vancouver have dougie for peanuts.

You don't trade away your top pairing D for help on the wing...

I agree completely. and Sure if Hanafin comes back that might help but Gio is gonna lose a step within the next two years. not fully falling off a cliff but definitely should not be the 1A defenseman on the roster at that point.
Not sure Hanafin, Valimaki, Fox or andersson would be able to be at that level by that time

This would have to be contingent on Tkachuk being there at 7. Otherwise there is nobody outside the top 5 I think parting with Hamilton to get is worth it, even with Lindholm added.

Michael Stone to Ottawa for the 22nd Overall
22nd Overall + Hamilton + Bennett for Skinner + Hanifin + Lindholm
Flip Skinner to Columbus for Panarin

I don't see why one should believe that Pierre McGuire has much of any special insight into NHL team transactions. This is well outside of his wheelhouse.

Great from Calgary POV, horrible for Carolina.
What would Carolina do with Brodie?
They are trading from their weakness to fill a strength.

You may as well give Columbus Smith and Brouwer for Bobo too.

I really hope we go into next season with Hamilton. Really not interested in another four quarters for a dollar trade.
The team needs scoring, he provides that with adequate defence. We don't really have the luxury of allowing murmurs around compete or character (which I don't even buy) influence us to punch huge holes in our roster.

Faulk is rumored to be on the move too, so they’d move him to have a top 3 D core of Slavin, Pesce and Brodie.

When has Treliving ever traded "four quarters for a dollar"? I get the concern, but this is completely in contradiction with his typical modus operandi.

Are you legitimately concerned that the current Flames management would fall prey to thinking like fans? As you say, the Flames need scoring. The only way I can see Hamilton moved is if a deal actually addresses this need.

Well when you're likely trading the best player in a deal of course it's a concern. I'm also not as sold on this management team as you appear to be. Treliving is a fine GM, he's not shown himself to be a great GM worthy of blanket trust.

I don't care if we have Hamilton or not, just as long as the team is better overall. That's the most important thing.

I wouldn't worry too much, most of it is people wanting to trade for the sake of making a trade, and some of it might be people listening to media. I know Rob Kerr has been whining and crying ever since Dougie refused a season ending interview and has been hoping for a trade ever since.
