She's suggesting they're gonna throw the game to eliminate Argentina. Though really I think most teams would much rather face Argentina than Iceland. Argentina are shambolic and Iceland are a true team.

I thought she meant more like, is it important to finish 1st and have a handshake with iceland who would go thru on a tie too.

I think even with Argentina looking this bad you never undersell Dybala and company. But ya this is a real mess.

I doubt Argentina can beat Nigeria if they play like this again.
Messi...invisible. Not as easy for him when he doesn't have 4-5 other elite players in midfield and at forward.

Well Argentina aren't just gonna have to beat Nigeria, they're gonna have to win like 5-0, and obviously nothing suggests they can do that. The most shocking thing was they barely qualified, but were considered one of the top five favorites. I still thought they'd get through their group, but obviously not.

Regardless of which team is the greater threat, Croatia only faces one of them again if it's in the final. Maybe you want to let the team that has the better chance to pull of some upsets in the knockout stage through over the one that would be easier to beat in the final but less likely to get there.

Also, why have VAR if you can't use it when a situation warrants it? Otamendi should have been sent off for that nonsense late in the game.

Nigeria vs. Iceland should be a good fight now. Both teams have a very good chance of moving forward with a win.

on the flip side if Nigeria beats Iceland, then you could see a hell of a game when Argentina takes on Nigeria.

Even if Nigeria and Iceland tie, Argentina would still have a decent chance of moving forward with a win over Nigeria.

Plenty of football left in this division.

		| France is through to the round of 16 with Thursday’s win over Peru, which has been eliminated from knockout-round contention. Denmark simply needs a draw with France to move on. Australia still is alive but its chances are far less certain; at the bare minimum it needs to beat Peru and have Denmark lose to France. An Australia win by at least two goals combined with a Denmark loss — of any margin — would put the Socceroos through. But should the Aussies win by just one goal, their chances would depend on Denmark’s margin of defeat and goals scored against France. For instance, a 1-0 Australia win combined with a 1-0 Denmark loss would put the Socceroos through by virtue of the total-goals tiebreaker. But a 1-0 Australia win combined with a 3-2 Denmark loss would work in the Danes’ favor, for the same reason. |

		| And if two or more teams still are tied after that? We go to:
 1. Greatest number of points obtained in the group matches between the teams concerned.

 2. Goal difference resulting from the group matches between the teams concerned.

 3. Greater number of goals scored in all group matches between the teams concerned.

 4. Greater number of points obtained regarding fair play conduct (yellow cards = minus-1; indirect red card, as a result of a second yellow card = minus-3, direct red card = minus-4, yellow card and direct red = minus-5, with only one of the deductions applied to a player in a single game).

That was just hard To watch, Croatia played with a great game plan and as a team. Modric and Rakatic were both superb. I feel bad for Messi but can’t say I feel sorry for Argentina, especially the way certain fans celebrated Neymar’s broken back and then the 7-1 in the last World Cup. The way they just gave up on the last goal was so pathetic.
