Maybe I misread that, sorry if I did.
But anyone else clamouring over the potential in Lindholm should also be in Bennetts corner.

I fully am in Bennett’s corner - he’s no where near peaked; Kyuss nailed it a few posts above and I probably should have clarified that I’m happy to wait and be patient with Bennett until he reaches his peak. He’s still only 18 you know

I’ve read both sides of the argument and I’m torn.
I don’t like the idea of trading Hamilton. At all.
Hamilton for a big money player (Stone in a year) doesn’t excite me.
Hamilton for Lindholm and Hanifin.... very interesting. But still don’t like it.

I’d put Monahan and Gaudreau ahead of all those players aside from Staal who literally hit his toughest patch of his career when he shared parts of 3 seasons with Lindholm.

Would rather have Hanifin instead of that 1st.

|
Eh. It's not really that simple. Panarin may be deadset on hitting UFA status. No way I want to spend significant assets for 1 year of him. Kessel is getting older, I wouldn't mind an acquisition like that but not at the cost of Hamilton. The UFAs like Neal are going to be way overpriced and likely sign for too long creating bad contracts down the line which may cost us our young stars. Only big name UFA I'd be keen on is Tavares.
The thing is players like Hanifin and Lindholm haven't even hit their prime yet. They would grow alongside our young core and potentially help us compete for a good chunk of their careers. Their value is likely only going to go up from here. Whereas a guy like Kessel is likely only to decline in value, get slower and he won't be a significant player for a decade like these young guys might be.
There's pros and cons to going proven production older forwards vs going for young guys with huge upsides. I'm totally fine with just acquiring more and more potential young stars. Hanifin IMO could easily be a young Hamilton and Lindholm definitely can still blossom into a 1st liner. I'd be fine with a proven scorer too but it all depends on the price and their contract. I'd rather keep Tkachuk, Monahan, Gaudreau, etc long term than have to deal one of them because we ended up with a poor contract on a veteran.

Not sure why you'd rather have the 7th overall pick than Hanifin. I'm not sure anybody available at #7 will have the upside Hanifin has. Plus Hanifin is getting close to being in his prime while the #7 pick likely doesn't contribute meaningfully for 3-5 years. Hanifin steps right into our lineup and contributes. Potential star/stud dman. Way rather him than a #7 pick this year.

^ good thing you didn’t trade the 2019 first because it will be Jack Hughes with that lineup
Bad value on both of those trades imo

The Hurricanes' GM is Don Waddell, one of the least successful executives in the history of this league. If there's anyone who I feel that Treliving could fleece, it's him.

Uh you got to be kidding me.
Thats last years forward group with Skinner and Lindholm added. Huge improvement.
The D didn't take much of a hit either if Rasmus is for real.

Let's not generalize. Waddell is the guy who rotally fleeced Button in the Savard trade.

This (potential) trade reminds me of the coach search: Flames have a gaping need. (Many) Fans want position filled with a known quantity that can be reliably expected to perform. Treliving looking for a "project" type acquisition which will hopefully exceed past performance and fill the need.
I may have to invest in more fingers to cross. . . .

Maybe. He might not even be there at #7 though. Redline has him at #6, ISS has him at #5, FC has him at 5.
Way rather have Hanifin than the #7.

Calgary: Hanifin, Panarin
Columbus: Lindholm, Bennett
Carolina: Hamilton, Dubinsky
Seems fair? Probably gotta add since Columbus maybe gets shafted a bit there.

Lindholm would address a pretty big need of a skilled right handed shooting forward.
One reason why I was never really keen on Hoffman and wouldn't go after Neal too ferociously is that they're left handed shots. So they might be trying to jam square pieces in a round hole.
It would be a risky move but maybe it adds enough up front without taking too much away on the back end.

What is your point there? My cat could have fleeced Craig Button, the guy is a baffoon.
