How are these takedowns not fouls?

What is going on? What is the point of having VAR when they are not checking a very obvious foul. I do not have any skin in the game, but that is horribly inept.

No one knows when VAR can or cannot be used. Seems to be up to the refs discretion or 4th official I’m not sure, which in my opinion is extremely dumb. Especially when certain calls get looked over and others don’t.

Thats not true at all. A quick google search will give you the answers to that.

Yea, but again the inconsistency by refs to use it or not use it makes it very frustrating. Certain plays are reviewed while others are not when they should be.

The most subjective and arguably problematic area. Penalties can be awarded or rescinded using VAR if there has been a 'clear and obvious error' in the original decision.
But this isn't clear.
If the ref misses something like the Kane incidents yesterday can the VAR ref buzz him to stop the play to review it?

It's not perfect but at least the calls that are getting made with VAR seem to be right, even if the non-calls still aren't.

Russia's group is a joke though, and based on elo they are the second best team in it.

That's how it should operate. If the VAR official sees something egregious, he should buzz the ref and they stop play to check it out. I don't know if that is how it is setup.

Well that's half the battle. At least half of the point is to make those non-calls though.

Well that closes off today.

Games for Wednesday May 20th 2018:

Portugal - Morocco
Uruguay - Saudi Arabia
Iran - Spain

So have 3 of the "bigger name" teams tomorrow but no real appealing match ups - will be interesting if any of the underdog teams can shock the bigger teams.

I think the big storyline tomorrow is can Ronaldo go for three straight hat tricks in the group stage? He's got the hardest one, scoring three against Morocco and Iran should be pretty easy.

Can Iran get a point? They are defensively solid. The longer it takes for Spain to get a goal the more tense it gets.

Is there anyway Morocco can beat Portugal? Bet on Morocco to win or a tie game?

I'm a casual fan who always pulls for England in these, was all fired up after that late win yesterday, checking the sked to see when they play next...Sunday?? Is there always that big of a gap between games, or is it just a lack of venue options thing? Needing 5 days off between games seems a bit excessive for soccer, this isn't gridiron football.

Yes this is how world cups are played. They don't want to have multiple games at the same time in order to maximize the tv audience for each game. The only exception is the last game of group stages as those have to be played simultaneously to make it fair for all teams in the group (If you want to know how this rule came to be, look into the Algeria debacle o 1982).
