Tod Button says it is a deep draft with lots of good d-men. Says its 60:40 d-men to forwards.
Also said they had 70 players on their list last year. This year they have 90-100 players.

Lots of comments on 2nd round picks and the first 3 rounds being really deep from the Flames scouts.

So hint hint Brad?

Well yea, I would guess. When your first pick isn't until 105th, your list better be a little longer. Fricken thing is gonna look like it's bleeding to death with all the names that are crossed out before the flames get a selection.

McKenzie's last ranking was published on Jan 26. So yes, things have changed since then when Kotkaniemi was ranked 19, especially as the article states at the u18s in April.

People seem to forget that McKenzie doesn't put out rankings every month like some scouting services.

TSN draft lottery rankings had him at 10. Which was released in April.

doh. forgot about the draft lottery rankings.

Anyways those rankings were probably gathered before the u18s which ran from April 19 to 29.

The draft lottery was on April 28.

To be clear, I wasn't picking at you or anything. It just seemed a little click-baity coming from Bob.
These draft day miracles usually are reserved for the NFL draft.

Based on the bottom end of Bob's list and doing a quick point per game sweep there are a few guys that would be nice to see drop to us in the fourth round.
 Aiden Dudas
 Cole Fonstad
 Riley Sutter
 Phillip Kurashev
 Logan Hutsko

I will be very surprised if a single one of those guys are available at 105, but they would all be very good picks.

I'm hoping Toni Utunen falls that far, he's like the only guy I'm excited about that the Flames might have a shot at.

Don’t really know if the price will be worth it to acquire a 3rd or 2nd round pick. My guess is the flames stay where they are at. Sucks but hopefully they get a high potential guy somehow

This is my take aswell. The Flames will likely target a pick based on their draft list. I predict a fairly low key deal that involves swapping one of their 4th and a prospect, for a prospect and a 3rd.

Some times players you rate highly fall for no particular reason and you can snag a good value player in the 4th round. Look at last year with Ruzicka. I would have thought he would have went in the 50-70 range based on his tools, position, and overall makeup. Instead he was available when the Flames finally went to pick. It looks like an excellent pick for the 4th round thus far.
I wouldn't be shocked if something similar happened this year, where the Flames get a guy who is falling for no particular reason.

I'm fully expecting the Flames to find a gem in this draft. Not having any higher picks should have focused them on the prospects expected to go in this range.
My fear is that someone falls from the late 2nd or early 3rd and is still on the board and they come off their plan.

Honestly not overly upset the Flames don't have top picks because our drafting has been so good the last few years. I love how this scouting staff prioritizes value over other intangibles and takes fliers on guys they know have the ability and aren't so easily swayed by the consensus, albeit a few picks from years ago like Smith and Kanzig where size played a huge role in their decision. Seems like they've moved on from that crap and regained fan trust in their decisions.
People tend to forget we already have excellent prospects in the organization and to trade those from within who are further in their development for a shiny pick in the top 3 rounds is taking 1 step forward and 2 steps back.

Prediction! The Oilers are going to draft Bode Wilde in the first round. He's a guy with a ton of tools but not tool box.
The precise type of guy the Oil will draft.
 Looking forward to it.

I think for a 4th rounder he wasn't a bad pick but when I've watched him his G.A.S. level is really poor.
He's got some skill but needs a lot of maturity to be a pro at all.
But I like the focus on upside with those late rounds.
