Hasn’t everything that can be said about Bennett been said? Honestly I’d love to see him traded just to stop the constant, endless, repetitive blather about a player that up until this point can be described as meh.

His entire first full season he played lw on the backlund-frolik line.

Hmmm 18 goals as a 19 year old is light years ahead of anything Lazar has done offensively.
Weird how no one seems to remember pre-GG Bennett

It's too early to give up on Bennett. The talent is there as he has proven, just not on a consistent basis. That's what he needs to work on to succeed. If anything happens it should be a D moving out for an upgrade to the top 2 RW spots.

Yeah I get the dead horse beating feeling on Bennett too, but trading him would be a horrible idea. He'd just end up being a star elsewhere and the topic would never go away.
It is not so different than it was with Jankowski.

The main issue with the Bennett situation is the only way we “win” is if he turns it around here. You can trade him, but you’re not going to get someone much better than what he is now, and you run the risk of him turning it around and making the trade look bad. If you keep him, you run the “risk” that he doesn’t ever get much better. Potential aside, I’d keep him knowing he may not get better. Even as he is right now, he could be a good role player.
That’s a big loss considering his draft position, but that’s a sunk cost anyway. Unless Bennett himself provides that value, there’s no way to recoup the value of his draft position.

One way to possibly “win” a Bennett trade is if he part of a bigger trade where you’re landing a big fish. Not a Domi for Galchenyuk trade.

The Flames need a long term goalie solution, and Juuse Saros is an RFA this year.
A $4 mil offer sheet only costs the Flames a second round pick and while the Preds do have cap space, I don't think they want to spend 11 mil on their goalies if they don't have to.
I wonder if the Flames could send an offer sheet or maybe even trade Gillies/Rittich or even both for his rights.
Saros is a question mark for sure but I think he's going to be a starter for a long time. Would rather have him than Grubauer. Saros could split time with Smith for next year, plus he'd be another Finnish goalie and they are well-liked in Calgary.
Hellebuyck is also an RFA but I doubt the Jets wouldn't match anything reasonable. Gibson is an RFA next year but I think the Ducks will lock him up as soon as they can.

The flames don’t have the required second to make an offer sheet do they? 2019 is gone too

Nashville would probably match and if they really had to would trade rinne. Rumours are this is probably rinne last year in nashville

All I’m saying is every thread gets gummed up with Bennett nonsense. I’ve literaly stopped reading so many threads cause the same people arguing the same points about the same player in multiple multiple threads. It’s getting boring. I don’t see how a barely 30 point player is suddenly gonna be a star or deserves this much chatter. Now that I’ve contributed to this nonsense I’ll stop the exact thing I’m bitching about.

tough to acquire a goalie in his prime unless you are willing to give up a bit... looking back to pre expansion draft, its unfortunate Anaheim didn't want to trade Anderson to anyone in the west.
its my understanding that Calgary offered more, but the Ducks preferred to send him East... a first (30th OA) and a second is pretty much a steal in retrospect for a guy that can be an NHL starter for up to a decade.
at this point, maybe calgary can get Grubauer? but outside of that, not sure who else fits that category... Hutton could platoon with smith and then depending on what happens, he could backstop gillies/parsons/rittich until they are ready to be the full time starter...
i do think the flames will bring on a veteran goalie just because Smith needs more rest during the season, and Rittich/Gilles don't appear to be ready for extended starts

Sounds like lots of smoke around Hayes. Larry brooks article:
https://nypost.com/2018/06/16/inside...draft-at-hand/
Quote:
Chances are that if the Rangers make a substantial move leading into Friday’s first round of the entry draft in Dallas, it will involve Kevin Hayes. Multiple sources report the 26-year-old impending Group II free-agent center has attracted significant interest from around the league as general manager Jeff Gorton sifts through various scenarios both connected to and independent of improving the club’s ninth-overall position.
The Blueshirts have talked with Carolina about moving up to second overall, where the team would jump all over right wing Andrei Svechnikov, but though the dynamic could change through the week, such a deal seems extremely unlikely.

That is correct, they could trade for it from the Isles but it would like cost something, perhaps a 2020 2nd and a prospect for the 2019 2nd.

So the Habs would not have done a Bennet for Galchenyuk? I'll answer - no, they would not.
It's fine to say/think/hope Bennett has more potential, but in 4th season after draft Galchenyuk scored 30 goals plays center and Bennet scored 11 from the wing.
You're 100% right though. Flames need Bennett to reach the potential he is/was thought to have because a trade would definitely be a loss at this point.

No, they really don't. Despite having a down year due to injuries, Parsons will be that all star goalie we need in the next couple seasons. Smith and Rittich/Gillies are fine holding the fort down until then.

I hope your right, but Parsons has really struggled coming out of junior. Hopefully we see some good progress this year.

He had huge injury issues last year. Every time he got healthy and started to get into the groove he got injured again. I watched the guy his whole career in London and I have zero doubt he has all the tools and drive to be the next Jonathan Quick. I truly believe this guy is our franchise player down the road.

I’d prefer they keep him and if it bothers you so much, you can stop reading CP.
I’d hate to think the Flames were making hockey decisions based entirely on your ability to withstand what’s written on CP.
