Rust is a Rh shot which is an organizational need. But probably doesn’t have the upside we are looking for in a potential Bennett trade. Simon pretty middling prospect. And while we might be able to get a 2nd thrown in, doesn’t tip the scale enough to do it. Now if you are talking Daniel Sprong that night get discussions moving.

I'd be willing to make that trade just to see Crosby turn Bennett into a 100+ point player.

This might sound crazy, but with Montreal absolutely desperate for an established center, would losing Backlund leave too big a hole on the roster?
Backlund, Stone, Brouwer
For
Alzner, Gallagher, 2nd
Alzner is making 4.625 for the next 4 years.

Losing Backlund means one of Bennett or Jankowski is the #2C. That'll fill five compartments in a hurry.

Better yet let’s give him a chance to work his magic with Brouwer.

Since Crosby himself hasn’t broke 90 points the past four seasons, t is extremely unlikely that he elevates Bennett to a 100 point player. Bennett couldn’t break 30 points getting playing time with Gaudreau and Monahan, how is he going to generate that output playing with anyone?

You mean that one game he got with those two and looked good but GG moved him down the lineup anyhow? I would have been impressed if he would have broke 30 points in a single game.

Yeah, sure, Bennett only got one game with those two. His shift charts indicate otherwise.

That's not quite how it went down. Bennett would play well for the first game with Johnny and then be granted additional games where he was non existent. That's happened 2 years in a row.

Bennett played 13.3% of his even strength shift with Johnny and Mony. That may be more than one game, but not that much more.

If Sheary and Rust are so good then why is Pittsburgh willing to trade them? No thanks.

His shift charts indicate that he spent 13.3% of his even-strength ice time with Monahan and Gaudreau, and zero percent of his power play time. I suppose it would be slightly more reasonable to expect him to score 30 points in 157 minutes at even strength… slightly.

No thanks. Pens have enjoyed way too many breaks for being the Edmonton of the early 00's

With Pitt I always guess Money. Sheary is 3m. Rust and Simon have arb eligibility and Rust will be due for a decent bump in pay I would think. Plus there are a few other RFAs. They should be able to fit everyone but perhaps moving a salary like Sheary is attractive to them.

Not necessarily. If you're willing to give Statsny a two or three year deal he could play the number 2 spot.
There are a few options. It would definitely spread out the talent on the team more, but is there a problem with *lzner that I don't know about, or was he just a bad fit in Montreal?

While Johnny and Monny are very good players, Crosby isn’t all that bad himself.

If you want to improve team speed, you can do worse than adding guys like Sheary or Rust. Hagelin is another one from Pitts with wheels. All good two way complimentary players as well. I think Rust would work pretty well on our top line to be honest.

What are people thoughts on Craig Smith? He seems like a guy the Flames may be able to shake loose from Nashville.

13.3% of his shifts equates to 200 shifts with Monahan and Gaudreau. That’s 11 games worth of first line time. The problem is that Bennett did SFA with that time, not looking like a player that could contribute in that capacity. He was actually more effective with Jankowski as his center. Frankly, I’d like to see Tkachuk with Jankowski and Bennett, and see if that turns Bennett around. As it is, he doesn’t look like a top six player in the NHL. Playing with Tkachuk and Jankowski provide two quality players where Bennett will either start scoring, or become a support player on the bottom lines.

Bless his heart, but so far Bennett has shown slightly more than Lazar, and a lot of that was alongside Backlund and Frolik.
