I don't think I am seeing the same game as some of you. Iceland playing 11 men in the box is dreadful, and anti-football is a scourge plain and simple. It's so disappointing that it works.

Iceland parking the bus is a little different than Man United parking the bus. Not that I'm saying I enjoy it, but it's a lot more forgivable in one instance.

Will Messi be seeing that PK in his dreams? We shall see. Croatia/Nigeria with a big opportunity this afternoon when it comes to group standings.

How many times have we seen Messi on the ball, the game at his feet, last kick and he totally whiffs it? Its like its on repeat.
Messi even had an alright game, but just watch, its like watching the Oilers, its Messi and 10 other random dudes. Theres no team play.
Messi gets the ball and they box him out and force a sideways pass. They did it all game and it was really effective.
Fine with me though, I cant stand Argentina and I want to see Iceland progress.
BOOM!!

And also a lot different than Stoke parking the bus against a team like Man United.
Where Stoke would just have to deal with rinse repeat balls into the box but Iceland today had to work harder to deal with a lot of more creative approaches with close passing to feet and forwards taking them on.
I enjoyed watching them defend today. They had to work like dogs and be fully on their game. That's a folklore result for them. Nearly up there with England.

Tie game in a big match I take Cristiano Ronaldo over Messi every day.
One guy seems to come up big in big games (especially recently) and the other shrivels.

Think Fergie said it best.
Messi is a Barcelona player whereas Ronaldo could play on any team.

Canada can learn a lot from Iceland. 20 years ago they invested heavily into indoor facilities and coaching education, and they are reaping the rewards now. Also, the Icelandic actually get behind their country, something which is not done here.

As soon as they got the penalty I was thinking Aguero should take it because Messi's track record for the spot, especially recently, hasn't been great. Messi's phenomenal, but under the gun he definitely has a tendency to shrink.

Definitely, but seriously, how many times has there been a free kick with no time on the clock and Messi takes it and either skies it or plows it into the wall?
I like his open-play, but maybe hes not the guy for those scenarios.
His Penalty wasnt bad, it wasnt brilliant and it took a really good save, but it wasnt like he fluffed it or tried something cute, it just wasnt anything more than average, still took a remarkable save.
Argentina, you have other guys who are excellent at dead-ball situations, not just him. Maybe if it wasnt always the 'Messi show' you could have other talented players step up.
Either way, like I said, I cant stand Argentina so I'm cool with Iceland's success.

In fairness, it was 'Messi vs Iceland.'
So they really only had 1 guy against 340,000.

I can’t say how wrong this is about Messi. The man has scored an insane amount of free kicks over his career. Love the one game confirmation bias tho.
Argentina is an awful team and were an awful team in qualifying. They needed a god like performance from him just to get into the tournament.
France and Argentina will probably meet in the R.16 but neither are winning this tournament . Bad team chemistry on both sides
Iceland executes their game plan to peferfection! Brazil thanks you!

Argentina are definitely no lock to advance. I think Croatia will beat them, Iceland could have if they had gotten more adventurous and Croatia obviously have more quality. This was a horrific result for Argentina.

Speaking of confirmation bias it's also worth noting that Ronaldo's free kick yesterday was his first success in his last 45 attempts for Portugal.

Let’s also not forget Ronaldo has had awful world cups, before yesterday I believe he only had 3 World Cup goals. I’m sure the casual will be convinced by a one game performance tho.
Not taking anything away from him, just saying that it’s funny how people like to re-write history after one game.

Certainly. More often than not, it's a case of 'what have you done for me lately'.
