DK if your sister knows, but car seats, boosters, and strollers can be checked in for free with major airlines

Is the 3 year old using a booster or regular car seat? I forget the age cut off for transitioning to a the booster seat, but they are cheap like borscht if she needs one of those.

Should be a regular car seat at that age, not a booster. Boosters are at a minimum for 4 year olds that are 40 pounds or more and can sit still. My 5.5 year old is still in a car seat, not a booster quite yet, much safer in a car seat. And yes, you can check the car seat for free with all airlines. Most car seats expire 7 years from the manufacturing date................I know, I have way to much knowledge of car seats.

I don't think she knows that. I'll ask her to find out.

Sincerely thanks every one for their input.

Speaking of car seats...doing a roadtrip to BC with an almost 3 year old soon.

We have the iPad loaded, lots of snacks, and some stickers/colouring books...anyone have brilliant road trip activities to keep the kid from driving us crazy as the day goes on?

Play-Doh has always been a life-saver for us, our 4-year-old always gets tired of the Ipad, and the coloring books but Play-Doh never gets old. He makes a mess in the car, but it is so worth it.

Pulling over every couple of hours and letting your kids run around and expending some energy helps. Also letting them sleep late the night before if you know you have to rouse them up early for the long drive. Then after an hour or so into the drive, they will fall into a nice long nap.

If your kid goes back to sleep leave at 4. You get 3-5hrs of driving before he is up.

That can be administered either to the child or the adult. Preferably not the one driving.

at what age did your kids really understand "stranger danger"?
I don't know if my daughter is really getting what we're trying to teach her about personal safety.

hitting close to home as we have a friend who had recently had her child molested in a local playground.

my kid is really open, friendly and trusting and I don't think it would take much for someone to get at her.

I’m driving to Kenora in July. That’s 15 hours. My kids are pretty good travellers, but we’ll have to have some hope. In our long drive history we found that staying somewhere with a pool is excellent. My eldest did the drive last year with her grandparents and she would entertain herself a lot counting sheep and cows and horses.

We play eye spy a lot. Maybe some audio books for the kids?

But yeah.. iPad is king.

Someone at my son's preschool was diagnosed with hand foot and mouth disease. Anything I should be doing other than pray? Would you keep him home th rest of the week? Presumably the kid who has it won't be there, but do all the other ones have it now?

I would keep him home until they sanitize the place, it's not pretty.
Our pre-school last year went through that, they canceled classes for one day while they cleaned and sanitized everything.

Niece and a friend's kid have both gotten it from daycare before. Pretty sure it's part the point of avoidance and you've either got it or you haven't.

My mom rents (in Edmonton) when my sister visits from Montreal so I have to think there would be a place in Calgary that does the same.

We tried out eye spy last night for practice, and turns out everything he spied was Elmo. This is going to be fun!

(at least way more fun than when he was younger and just screamed the whole way...I can handle saying "is it Elmo?" for a few hours).
