Waaa-ha-ha-ha. No, not nuff said. Definitely some explanation required. Injuries have hampered him, but when healthy, he's elite. His numbers show it.

I don't think that you can class players that have had outstanding carriers but are on the down slide, because of age and injuries, over rated. Ray Lewis was a heck of line backer when he was in his prime. Edgerin James was a great back who lead the league in rushing his first two seasons. Zach Thomas is a huge competitor and a big part of the Dolphin Defense. Sure these guys may not be as productive as they once were. But they were all great players in their prime. If your going to use that criteria, you could argue that Brett Farve is over rated. But we all know that isn't the case.

Don't worry he's got a hate-on for one of the top 5 QBs in the league. Sounds like a Cowboys fan...

I like Al Wilson but there's quite a few LBs I'd take over him.

Yes but he's an OLB.

Nice speech, but I wasn't using the criteria you suggest.
None of the players I've mentioned were ever as good as the media made them out to be. That doesn't mean they sucked. Simply that they were, well, overrated.

I think you need to take the homer glasses off. Lets compare stats from
Zach Thomas
http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/...mzjfbnhOT.uLYF
Ray Lewis
http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/...6jGrFFvqL.uLYF
Al Wilson
http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/...mFIOBftPH.uLYF
I think the numbers speak for themselves. Ray's production has really dropped off in the last 2 years. But you can't say that Al Wilson is a better LB than either of these two guys and that they are overrated compared to Al Wilson.

Zach Thomas is a tackle machine. He is Junior Seau, IMO. Great, great player. Heart and soul guy who gets a lot of the attention he does from the media because of his motor. His motor sometimes takes him out of position. He overpursues at times. Does this mean he sucks? NO. Does this mean he isn't great? NO. I'm simply saying that Zach Thomas is not the same level of player that the media makes him out to be. Junior Seau is a HOFer...but he was never the best MLB in the NFL at anytime in his career.
Ray Lewis may be on the downside of his career, but he still gets the same hype he has since the SB season. His high rating is a product of his onfield demeanor. The intesity that he displays so wildly gets attention and coupled with a high talent level that has turned him into this god-like figure. Ray Lewis is no Dick Butkus. Ray Lewis is no Mike Singletary. I have more issue with Ray Lewis' hype than Thomas.

Actually Pennington is 16th in passer rating, tied for 15th for TD passes(with Romo, Losman and Kitna), and 13th in passing yards. See for yourself:

I would agree that Pennington is underrated though. I didnt understand why a large faction of Jets fans wanted the Jets to take Leinart in the draft. Pennington has proven in the past that he is a solid QB, he just had to show he could stay healthy for a full season. Which to this point in the year, he has. And why it was also smart to load up on OL's in the draft, with Brick and Mangold. Very smart moves IMO.
Most overrated QB: Brett Favre(was one of the best QB's in this league, if not the best. But way past his prime. Takes way too many chances by trying to force the ball in tight coverage) / Ben Roethlisberger(is an efficient QB, but succeeds due to the talent around him. Great OL, solid running game to lean on. And Hines Ward can catch anything)
Most underrated QB: David Carr- has been scrutinized because Texan fans feel they shouldve taken Vince Young. But Carr is quietly having a pretty solid year. Currently 9th in QB rating; amazing considering he plays for a team who will probably have a Top 5 pick this spring, and considering the turnstiles he has "blocking" for him. Anyone else wonder why Andre Johnson is 1st in receptions and 6th in receiving yards? I think if Carr was surrounded by a decent OL and some better weapons(and a running game he could also lean on), Carr would be a dangerous QB in this league.

Hummm I have must have been look at just week 13 stats I was thinking that was kind of odd
Any who I have to agree, there are 2 type of Jets fans the ones that Love Pennington and the ones who hate him, I support the guy he is the type of QB I like, can manage a game really well and rarely makes mistakes, but I know like everyone else the Kelvin Clemens is the future of the Jets

Really?
He is third in the league in recieving yards and other than himself who really rates him all that high?
He may have a quirky attitude and an insane view on how good the Lions are but he can make some great catches and is one of the few bright spots on the Lions.

I agree. One of the best young WR's in the game. Actually probably THE best WR under the age of 25. 3 or 4 years from now he may be THE best WR in the NFL.

Yeah..very true.
I guess I meant he over-rates himself. He thinks he is gods gift to the Lions.

Seems silly to me. Everybody knows Favre is on the downside of his career and have been openly speculating as to his retirement. So how does that qualify as overrated --I haven't heard anybody who thinks he is the same QB as in his glory days.
He is what he is -- a guy who is past his prime and how does that as overrated?

Donovan McNabb's name has been thrown around on here, same with WR Roy Williams. And me saying Favre's overrated is the one you question? As for him being overrated, maybe I just have too many Packers fans buddies that think he's still as great as he ever was.
Besides it seems alot of the posts in this thread are voting for guys who Id have to say are not overrated at all...like Michael Vick. Maybe two years ago he was overrated. But in 2006, Id have to say most of the NFL media world recognizes him as a mediocre QB...unless people on here think he's not even that.
I also read Byron Leftwich and Edge. Well Leftwich has lost his starting job for the year to David Garrard...and Edgerrin James has been scrutinized all year for the subpar performances he's had. So how are these guys overrated? Being overrated means the NFL media world thinks you're great, but you personally feel theyre not so great. I dont think any media outlets this year think those two are great.

I still think there are enough Vick defenders out there to warrant him being overrated.
The Chargers basically got LT and Brees for Vick. I wonder if San Diego would like to make that trade over again? I wonder if Atlanta might?
