so after reading the drinking and driving thread and a few others I feel a little down this morning (I'm sorry for your loss BTW Oilfan #81) so I decided to start thinking about Xmas plans

Myself and the wife will be doing a lot of traveling this xmas visiting family and friends, which is what xmas is supposed to be right?

Next weekend we will be in Calgary for a xmas brunch that my family does every year. Usually a gathering of all my moms side of the family (grandparents, aunts and uncles, cousins, etc.) always a good time and great to catch up with everyone on her side of the family.

Xmas we go out to Hazlet, Sask. to see the wife's family. Play some cards, go snowmobiling, just a good ol fashioned xmas on the farm.

To me this is what xmas is all about, what are your plans?

Going back home to Vancouver (from Ottawa) on the 20th!

Then it's New York for New Years!

Yep it's all about family as it should be. Getting together with both sides of the family for dinner and presents and games and what not. Making plans for Christmas Eve and Day and doing all the little things to get ready for what is always a great time of the year.

I gave up the partying, drinking side of holidays a long, long time ago. Can't think of anything more worthless or more meaningless to do than waste your time with that rubbish. Causes all kinds of problems while adding zilch to the season.

Nothing. We don't have any family here and no friends outside of work. I'll be using the time to relax and put down some tile.

I thought Xmas was about sharing the love by buying snotty kids Nintendos? Well atleast according to some on this board.

Im with you though, it's all about visiting friends and family....which becomes more important when one spends the majority of the year away from them.

I will be spending my Xmas back home in Calgary. Can't wait to get back there.

i luck out the league shuts down for almost 2 weeks
i fly in2 cgy from London on the 18th-gonna kick around Calgary till the 21st or 22nd then make the drive down 2 phx with the fam for some warm weather and hopefully some SUNLIGHT (something England dosnt offer) and then fly back from Phoenix 2 London on the 28th. should be pretty rushed but it will just be good 2 be back in North America

I'm spending Christmas Eve the Ukrainian way with the gf's family on the 24th, then I promptly fly out to Victoria to spend some time with the folks and head over to Van city for a day to meet up with some friends I made in Ireland.

My family in Northern BC is having a big family get together. They think we are going to Hawaii for Christmas, but we are in fact going to show up and surprise everyone.

It is our first Christmas with our son, so that is pretty exciting.

Going to the thriving metropolis of Picture Butte, hanging with my g/f and her Mormon mom/grandma. Rest assured there will be copious amounts of apple cider and chocolate.

Depending on where you work.

I used to clear frigging $600 a day on christmas, boxing day, new years... (which my not be lots to some, but for me its jackpot)...

Really makes working those days easier... plus helps pay for those presents

Take nurses for example..

they clear tonnnnnnnes of cash on these days...plus if its a weekend and nightshift... major shift-dif too.

Not a big deal for nurses anymore... They only get 1.5x on Stat holidays. There is such a shortage right now any nurse thats working F/T and even lots that are working P/T can get the overtime at 2.0x with the shift diff anytime before or after x-mas. All the units are short all the time.. they no longer have to wait for hoildays for the big money.

I remember working the boxing day sales when I was with FutureShop and I would clear a couple of thousand dollars in commission for that one day

Ill be doing pretty much the same as everyone else. Flying back to Calgary on the 15th to spend time with family, friends, g/f. Probably pop over to Vancouver for a couple days to see my grandpa who has been sick. Fly back to school on Jan 6th.

I can't wait..

Yes but they do 12 meatless dishes the same for regular Christmas eve. Twice as much drinking!

I try to spend as much time as I can go around visiting family and friends I may not see as much I would want...Its sad I have to wait for a holiday to do it but trying to get my family together is impossible having 12 aunts/uncles and 30+ cousins. And a lot of them live around the world so they come to Victoria to visit. It sure is nice to see them...I remember being 15/16 thinking why the hell do I have to see these people they are just family
