Been trying to get my game together with a whole new bag and not much range time, and it’s a bit of a work in progress still... Luckily my driving has come around, but changing out my #1 chipping club of the last 8 years has really cost me strokes. I’m pretty stubborn, and haven’t swapped back to my old wedge yet, but think I may soon!

Still very happy with the selection of awesome and affordable public golf around Montreal - so nice to have about 50 new courses to me at reasonable prices. Back to being a double digit handicap for now... was a brief time a few years back I was under 5...

I've had this new issue sort of creep up on me.

I have lost a lot of distance on my drive and irons and everything essentially. My friends seem to think I have become a huge arm swinger, but I don't think I have changed anything.

Anyone have any good drills I can do at the range to work on using more of my body weight and get some distance back?

I think the best drill for that is just standing in one spot and swinging a club from ten to two and back to ten (on a clock), and just letting your weight swap back and forth between feet. It just helps get the connection back between leg weight transfer and your arms.

Most guys I see without good weight transfer have trouble getting distance because they’re disconnected from the push their legs should be giving them.

Simple drill, or just as a warmup, but every long hitter moves through from back foot to front well to generate power.

In addition, I warmup with a towel under my arms at the shoulder for 15-20 balls. Keeps the body connected and turn back and through.

If it's specifically weight transfer, you can also cut a tennis ball in half, sticking one under your back heel and one under your front toe. You will essentially feel the load in your back heel on the back swing in a much more pronounced way, and the ball under the front toe will make you swing into your front hell, basically swinging all the way around your front foot. This will also help you clear hips.

1. Put all your change in your left pocket.

2. Tie your right shoe in a double knot.

3. Turn your hat around backwards.

When I started losing distance the pro that I golf with had me open up both feet in my stance. I wasn’t able to fully clear my hips and that effected my weight transfer as well due to losing flexibility from getting older and previous lower body injuries. If you have a pro you trust have him watch you on the range it is probably an easy fix if you are a decent player to begin with.

After we got our beers/snacks we headed to 10 where a group is teeing of from the blacks when they shouldn't have been, then there was a 2 some, then us. As we were waiting to tee off, the 3 groups behind us caught up. That is 6 groups waiting on Spirit 1. We played a couple of holes but when we got to Spirit 3 two groups in front hadn't teed off. Get a free 1 out of it i guess. Really annoying though.

Wow, that's horrible! I always avoid midday at River Spirit. As a member, I fortunately have access to their tee sheet so I go when it's quiet.

Anyone play Wintergreen lately?

Where was the course marshal would be my complaint. Spending good dollars on a course like that and having to put up with slow play like that is not acceptable.

Honest question:
If you were on 13 when it began raining why begin on 10 again after it stopped? If that is what the other groups were also doing then it is going to cause a backlog on the 10th tee.

And also, yeah, play from the appropriate tees.

Sounds like they played to 13, got a rain check, then went back and tee'd off at 10?

That would cause a massive backlog.

Anyone ever change their handed-ness for golf? Crazy question I know...

But I play hockey left, bat left, do everything left... Except I golf right. Sometimes I wonder if my struggles with distance and consistency is because I should be golfing left handed. I hit a home run from the dirt left handed last night which sort of got me thinking about it.

He got a rain check at 13. He then describes how that happened: started with backlog on 10 and by the time he got to 13 (Spirit 3) two groups hadn't teed off yet.

Ran a search through this thread and nothing came up.

My 16 yr old is looking to get into golf, he has received some lesson at his school and is looking to fully learn the game.

Can you guys recommend lessons or summer camps for beginner teens, preferably in the NW?

The National Golf Academy does junior lessons at Confederation Park, but I think they stop at 14.

I'd call them and see if they have anything that works.

That is how I read it too.

After re-reading I can see how it could have been this scenario as well which makes more sense for the backlog.

Psyang is correct. Sorry for the confusion. Played Cattails first and then went to Spirit 1(hole 10) where the backlog started. Marshal wasnt much help but he seemed pretty frustrated as it sounded like some members jumped out which caused the issues. We asked if we could go back and play Cattails again but marshal said it was closed for stupid soccer golf.

Sitting here at D’arcy ranch. Hole 6. There are 3 groups waiting to tee off in front of us. Totally unacceptable. I feel your pain Everfrsh.
