Not entirely...they've mostly had clear-cut winners where there wasn't another group of parties splitting the vote who lean towards the same ideology. Alberta is the other one.

It's interesting that aside from Alberta & Saskatchewan there aren't other Conservative leaning parties that affect vote counts. Whereas you look at other provinces and there are viable Liberal leaning parties that do significantly split the vote.

B.C. (Clearcut winner, no vote split according to ideology)

Omitted.

Yes, you can argue the nuances of each party on the left and say it's not that simple, but in general Ontario leans left more than it leans right according to the votes.

I don't really see the Liberals and NDP as vote splitting. They are vastly different IMO.

Except for when the Reform Party and PCs were splitting the federal right for about 15 years.

Yeah, hard to consider the party of trade unionists and the party of the bankers and Central Canadian establishment as the same.

Hydro One sale sunk her. Utility bills skyrocketed.

The gas scandal didn't help. Really multiple people should be in jail for that one.

And of course sky-high residential real estate.

Luckily some of you will be very happy soon when the real estate market tanks under Ford's watch.

I'm purely looking at both parties on the spectrum. One centre-left, the other left.

I'm aware there are platform differences between them.

Where this has meaning (to me anyway) is the social aspect of these types of elections. Doug Ford, for example, shakes up everything regarding climate change, he's anti-abortion, homophobic - generally things more tolerated by left leaning people.

It's always been my wish of a viable party that was fiscally responsible, but socially progressive. Seems you can't have both or you get a leader (like Wynne) who squanders it.

And so continues Ontario's slow slide into the murky depths of Hell.

This was the election from hell. No good choices anywhere, and really no matter what party, there were good and bad things about them.

We live in strange times. Most people are thinking of economic issues (really, their own personal financial situation) when they go to the ballot box, but our discussions about public affairs, in traditional media but especially on social media, are dominated by social issues. Maybe it's a generational thing, with 20 and 30 somethings filling twitter, tumblr, Youtube, and Facebook with culture wars, but come election time the 40-80 year olds walk into a polling station and vote for whoever is going to lower their utility bills.

As a Torontonian I love the party - loathe the leader. I cannot believe they decided to nominate Ford over someone like Christine Elliott.

The guy has zero interest in policy. No knowledge of the issues. All he cares about is being liked and the sense of superiority that comes with the title of Premier.

My hope is his antics destroy his popularity, the party stabs Doug in the back like they did Brown and Elliott emerges as the leader. Wishful thinking, but we'll see.

Hopefully he lets the people who actually know what they're doing run the party and content himself with showing up at events.

This is my opinion too, we ended up with the best party. He can’t do anymore damage than any of the other options.

Why not? For a lot of people the welfare of their family is more important than changing the lyrics of the national anthem. That kind of stuff doesn't pay the rent or put food on the table.

Yes because those are the only two options.

You got it.

More like electing any government in 2018 isn’t going to dramatically change social issues. But can have a huge effect on my pocket book. One of these is far far away more important to my family.

Doug Ford: Hold my beer.

In fairness though, Wynne was her own worst enemy and complete disaster in her own right.

This election was Ontario playing Russian Roulette with a fully loaded revolver.

A voter is free to vote however they please. This is why we live in a democracy. Why do you feel your ideology is the only one that should matter to everyone?
