That was fantastic. Super pumped for Ovechkin.

Just walked out of Dicks Sporting goods with a family set of Caps Stanley cup gear. They’ll be open until 2:00am tonight and re-open at 6:00am. It was packed with people buying gear. Guy in front of me dropped $650 on Caps stuff.

Promised the kids I would take them to the parade at the beginning of the playoffs. Looks like they are going to hold me to it. I’ll do my best to post pics.

Yeahhhhhhh CAPS! Woot!

I think I've mentioned it once or twice over the years but I've been following the Caps hardcore since the early 90's (Peter Bondra was my favourite player growing up). 1998 was a lot of fun watching their run, and then 20 years of failure pretty much (damn Penguins).

Even though it ended after only 5 games, the whole series was just incredible to watch. So happy right now, what a night!

Is that a hospital bracelet?

Might just be a wristband to access a particular area. Like the ice.

Yeah, other family members are wearing them too. Likely ice-level access.

The only time I have been this genuinely happy to see a non Flame win the cup was when Ray Bourque got one with Colorado.

Ovechkin, what a beaut.

So thrilled for him and the rest of the Caps.

I agree, even though it only went to 5 games they were 5 fantastic games to watch. Very intense series.

I think he'll cash in on a huge contract. Cup winning coaches get paid, and its unlikely he was making big money all those years in Nashville.

Good for Ovechkin. Not having a Cup would have hurt his legacy terribly, and we are looking at one of the all time greats here.

I don't really agree. I think Ovie is pretty well acknowledged as one of the greats. Not having a Cup doesn't really change that, but having one certainly elevates his status as a winner. Even if he never got one, he's probably finishing his career top 5 in goals in NHL history and one of the faces of the league for over a decade. Not to mention, truckloads of hardware. He's a lock for the HOF already.

I guess it's hard to imagine what we would think if it didn't happen because now it did!

Congrats to Ovechkin and the Caps!

Capitals deserved it. Their stars played well but their lower lines really stepped up too. Good to see Ovechkin get the cup. We don't get to see that raw excitement in sports too much anymore. I wouldn't be shocked if he only plays 3 more years in the NHL and goes back to Russia to prepare to win an Olympic gold.

I do think Kuznetsov was honorable mention for the Conn Smythe. Him stepping up like he did really elevated the Capitals.

Those Stanley Cup hats the players were wearing looked pretty nice. My wife came in the room when Oshie was doing his interview and commented "I like that hat" and she's not a ball cap fan. I imagine you will see plenty of people wearing those over the summer in the area.

It is so awesome to see Ovi win the cup. This is up there with Edmonton and Vancouver losing as one of my favourite cup moments.

Also how about Nathan Walker! He grows up in Sydney where everyone plays rugby and only learns about hockey from The Mighty Ducks and Mystery, Alaska, moves to Europe for development, spends time in the USHL, ECHL, and AHL and then after finally making the NHL he ends up in Edmonton. Now he has lifted the Cup, what a great story! He didn't play in the final so isn't guaranteed his name on the Cup but hopefully the Caps make him one of their 3 extra names.
