If Brouwer doesn't get bought out I get it. Each month you kick the contract down the road I think makes it easier to move him. Brouwer at 50% with 1 year left probably has value.

Despite the last two seasons, I genuinely believe that the Blues would take back Brouwer if the Flames retained salary.

The Blues have a huge leadership void since Backes and Brouwer left. As great as Pietrangelo and Tarasenko are, local reports say they are not leadership material. Brouwer at 50% salary is about league average these days

Frolik getting moved makes a lot of sense. He could return an age appropriate player that may actually help us, whereas Brouwer might actually cost us assets to move. Frolik is the ~8th best forward we have (After Gaudreau, Tkachuk, Monahan, Backlund, Ferland, Bennett, Jankowski, and maybe even Shore if my gut assessment is right) so his loss would be minimally felt. And dropping Frolik and Stone's cap hits could open up some avenues in their own right.

Of course dropping Brouwer is ideal but not realistic.

Frolik is better than Jankowski, Bennett and Shore, at this time.

Though hopefully that changes over the course of this season.

Only one of those guys you mentioned plays right wing. Trading Frolik would absolutely be felt by the team unless they had a suitable replacement coming in via FA

I have a sinking feeling a big piece from our core is going to be moved this summer. (Hamilton/Brodie/Ferland or Bennett). Frolik/Brouwer won't be going anywhere.

Tre did say the roster we start the season with WILL NOT be the same roster we finished last season with. That could mean a number of things I suppose but I read that be plans to make a trade or two or UFA signing or two or combination thereof.

I feel like that is a pretty safe thing to say for any team, in any sport, at any time in history. Last night was a bunch of platitudes from all involved. I don't mind as I get the disadvantage of exposing any real part of the plan... Enjoyed them better when burkie was around.

What's up with Ken freaking king though? Man that guy is a blowhard. He said that he wasn't aware the concourse bathrooms were a problem joking to himself "why would I be? I have my own." LOL Ken!

He did a trumpian job of twisting the arena facts as well, saying that the flames are above rhetoric and the whole issue with this thing is that they acted with too much integrity and weren't used to playing politics. Sure thing, Ken. Sure thing.

Wow, so trying to get their own guy in as mayor doesn't count as playing politics? KK gets more annoying by the year. Can't believe I used to be a big backer of that guy. Not knowing the concourse bathrooms are a problem? That's beyond idiotic. I hope he's just lying, as that's better than being that oblivious to his customers concerns. Was calgarynext going to have the same (or less) bathrooms than the dome?

I think with the cap going up to 81M, it won't be the worst thing in the world to hold off buying out Brouwer until the 2019-2020 season unless we were to go big game hunting during free agency.

I also don't know where to post this but I'll just post it here: I really like what the Flames are doing with Ryan Van Asten where many players and prospects are staying in Calgary over the summer to work out with RVA. I think this will really help the prospects to grow and give them more familiarity with the city, the players and the management group.

Although I don't support buying out Brouwer this year, (absent some elite player landing in our laps), I think you have to acknowledge that Brouwer is likely on a trajectory of not being an NHL calibre player by the end of next year.

I don't believe he will have any value over the length of his remaining contract. He is in David Jones territory.

In a perfect world he bounces back a bit.. I thought he did well on the PK. Sure he didn't put up points, but I thought he was playing a good heavy game before fracturing his face. That is why I think Brouwer at 50% with one year remaining will have value.

Can somebody ask King if the fact that the Flames used to write revenue sharing cheques and now receive them means that they are losing money or if it just means they are on the bottom 15 teams in terms of profit in the league? The fact that they can be a profitable franchise and still receive a cheque isn’t lost on me. And then ask if they would be able to use that argument if they had made the playoffs at least 50% of the time instead of only twice in 9 years?

I would hope we don't remain status quo and go into next season with the exact same core group. In all likeliness, Calgary will trade from a position of strength and depth involving a defense-man or two and shore up the forward unit. Given the available cap space, we would also target a RW UFA hopefully on a shorter term deal that wouldn't cripple the franchise in the latter years. Easier said than done however.

If anyone is going, it'd be awesome if you could ask about Brodie (Why play him on the left when all his offensive success was on the right even last year, did Gulutzan's system not suit skating, stretch passing Dmen like him, etc)
