Kuznetsov on the ice for optional skate this morning. Huge news for the Caps if he can play game 3.
Even if he cannot go, Eller has been a revelation these playoffs for how he has been able to step up into the top-six and be effective. He covered very well for Backstrom for several games while he was out; I think he can do the same for Kuznetsov.

I think Eller can cover for Kuznetsov for a short period. But if you want to win, you need every bit of extra magic you can muster. Missing Kuznetsov, IMO, is likely the difference between winning or losing the Cup.

The benefit for the teams (and league) with the extra off days for the final is that it allows for players to get more rest time for injuries, increasing their chances of playing in the next game.

Agree, but playing hockey in the lower half of the United States in June, when the temperature is 90-110 degrees Fahrenheit outside, and (if it’s in the east) 80-90% humidity, has got to be hard on the ice quality, not to mention it’s insane to be extending the season so long.

It is difficult to see how the playoffs could possibly end any earlier than June.
· The current SCF schedule was carefully plotted to avoid any coincident dates with the NBA Finals
· Individual playoff series are plotted to occur within brackets, and thus all are likely to require a two-week timeframe to allow for potential Games 7
· Shortening the regular season is a non-starter in view of league revenues
· Implementing first-round byes are non-starters in view of lost playoff revenue
I don't see another way around it.

They should start the season in early September. Done.

Conflict with NFL cities, the NHL already feels the pinch in some markets during the fall because the NFL is running. They won't start their season at the same time the NFL does theirs.
I was going to say either that one, or perhaps even as far back as 1994 (Rangers-Vancouver) or 1991 (Penguins-North Stars)

This series has been one of the best i can remember watching. Excluding the homer bias in 2004, how far back do you have to go to find a more exciting SCF?
I was a little kid and didn't know but asking parents and people with homer bias, the 1989 series was awesome to watch.

Homer bias, maybe, but that series featured the 2 best teams over the regular season, with the deepest talent, meeting in the SCF - something that doesn’t happen often.
1. A Cinderella story.
2. A goalie that stood on his head to get his team this far.
3. A feel good story about a great player FIIINAALLY having a shot at the mug.
4. A high scoring opener.
5. insane tempo.
6. A great side story about all the long shot bets that might pay off huge.
7. No real underdog. Either team could take the series.
8. No pens, kings, hawks, bruins in the final.
All were missing is the captains fighting each other( I can wait for game 6 for that one...Iggy won.) and all the boxes would be complete. This series is epitomized in what The stanley cup final is all about.
Sorry to disappoint you, but VGK doesn’t have a captain.
Yeah, that just means its going to be the whole group of Associate Captains beating the hell out of Ovechkin and then promptly disappearing prior to the next game....

looking forward to seeing the atmosphere in Capital One Arena... if the excitement from that game 2 watch party carries through, it should be a heck of an atmosphere...
and with all due respect to LGK singer Carnell Johnson, the pride of DC, Sargent Major Bob MacDonald and Master Sargent Caleb Green (Ret) sing the anthem incredibly.... one of the best renditions I've ever heard...
