Re: Ward - He was being considered for the head coaching role here and left a position with NJD to take the AC role here. I think that speaks to him wanting to be here and to the organization's desire to have him in the fold and what they think of him.

Treliving said he wanted a a coach/teacher and from the sounds of it Ward and Huska match that criteria. This is still a young team that I think will benefit from what they are putting together. I'm looking forward to it.

Reading his unraveling has me wondering the same. Is there a point where a fan jumps the shark and then actually takes more pleasure from being right about a team making mistakes than actually hoping they don't?

I can't help but picture an October winning streak with a guy in an arm chair with bloodshot eyes and a nervous tick

I am just tired of the mediocrity and losing and these guys don't exactly inspire confidence. I apologize for my ranting.
Now this I can get behind.

This fan base deserves some stability and some success and I don't blame anyone for getting angry when the spin cycle gets turned on again.

Im not going to give my personal opinion on any of the hires as i have no real knowledge of any of the new staff.

That being said, i had hoped the flames invested in an experienced staff that has any kind of nhl level success. Clearly that was barely a criteria in filling these positions.
So one of the four guys that led Canada at the last World Cup is unproven and unheralded?

Tough market to hire a coach in.

There are some examples of this already, more to do with particular players. There are some obvious Bennett supporters who actively hated Ferland (because he was taking up Bennett's rightful spot) and were gleeful when he slumped. There are those who seem pretty happy when Hamilton, or Backlund, or Brodie, or Frolik make mistakes.

Hell, the media in Calgary does this all the time too.

"Monahan doesn't care about winning"

Days later, 4 surgeries.

In all fairness, Peters is unheralded in the NHL, and I think you know that is what he meant in his post. You can't blame certain posters for thinking this way, especially since the Flames have rolled the dice on many unheralded guys in the past.

To be fair that was Francis who I honestly believe does hate the Flames.

In all fairness a best on best tournament had four men guide them and the head coach of the Calgary Flames was one of those guys.

That's pretty hard to ignore if you're tossing out unheralded and unproven.

I'm cautiously optimistic these are good hirings. As much as Dissentowner's posts might have come across as a bit loony, I can't say I disagree with a lot of his comments. I too am a passionate Flames' fan who for the first time in 20 years, won't be purchasing tickets for this upcoming season because I feel the team is once again a boring product and I don't feel like purchasing expensive tickets and watching a team with a terrible home record lose games. Coaches like D. Sutter and Vigneault were on the table for the taking. Yet BT (who I am a MASSIVE supporter of) went a bit off the board again.

While Peters has said all the right things thus far, it's a massive gamble for a team coming out of a rebuild that NEEDS to have a good season in order to take the next step and have their contending window open up. You look at teams like the Knights or Caps and see just how far away the team is from one day being like them. The Flames have a long way to go, and it starts with hiring the right coaching staff.

I'm willing to give them a chance and pray it works out. But I can understand how some people might feel underwhelmed and view it as a lost opportunity given the names that were out there. Having said that I'm a pretty optimistic guy and want nothing more then for all this to work out.

Objection: assumes facts not in evidence.

Most of us are extremely passionate about this team, otherwise we wouldn't spend ridiculous amounts of time on here. We are going to disagree about things, sometimes they will get heated, sometimes we will say stupid things, but in the end we are all Flames fans. And yes, I am fueled by Nyquil still. Every year in the Spring I seem to pick up a bug. That being said it is nothing compared to what Bingo is going through so if I am moody and snappy I can't even imagine what that guy is going through. Keep up the good fight.

One thing is for sure, I am happy that the coaching situation was taken care of early. One less thing for BT to do this off season. Plenty of time for the coaches to prepare.

Next order of business is to quit pissing around with PTO's and get some chemistry going on the roster in the preseason.

You might see more PTOs this year with the team going to China.
