It's been attempted before. People don't read or follow the rule of the thread. It's just dozens of posts of people discussing/speculating their own crappy rumors and dozens more of others trying to remind them that the thread is for legit rumors only.

If they try it again it will literally be a post or two before some dumbass breaks the rules and it descends back into chaos.

Speculation is in the title of the thread. Regardless of what you think are fantasy trades, they are being made speculatively based on the needs of the team and potential available players. So the speculation is for pros only? What if I run a blog? Does that count? Will that be okay with everyone?

Start a “Professional Sports Analyist Tweets” thread or something if you don’t want fan discussion.

I agree with a sticky thread for rumors only. I kind of poke my head in every once in a while in hopes of seeing an actual rumor only to be disappointed by the same old Flames players A, B, C being tossed out by posters in hypothetical proposals to the same teams A, B, C, etc. over and over. I realize posters love making up their own proposals and theoretical trads and I have no problem as all with this type of discussion but it would be nice to have some separation between fan banter and media rumors/speculation.

In other words, don't come to Calgary Puck if you want to find actual rumours floating by the media. This is the place for fan banter.

I am not sure why there couldn't be a place for both.

There is, and it’s always this thread + new threads that get created for significant rumours.

Every year I’ve been here people complain about the speculation in this thread, but by checking in on this thread and reading FOI I’ve never once missed out on a rumour of significance.

It works. Not much reason to simplify it down for people who don’t want to read discussion on a message board.

I suppose likelihood of injuries over a longer season is one of the reasons for tapering off.

Coming here for news is great, but it seems like every month or so there's someone asking for a news only thread. Creating a Twitter account is an easy solution IMO.

Plus if the news is big enough it will get its own thread. Most of the "rumours" in here are just lists of which teams have scouts at which games anyways.

I am all for having two separate trade threads. I love making fantasy trades and pretending to be the GM, but at the same time I would like to talk about real rumors that are going on. And no, I am not going to make a Twitter account in order for me to get my news. I'd rather go on CalgaryPuck with fellow Flames fans and discuss with what's going on within the league and also the Flames.

Of course you'll have those few posters that are going to try and screw everything up, but the least we can do is at least try to maintain the threads separate and knowing where to puts rumors and where to put your fantasy GM trades on.

Using Twitter doesn't mean you have to stop coming here to discuss the rumours. Often times I see something on Twitter and immediately come here to discuss it, but to each their own I guess.
