Gonna get even more stale as a long season continues and the Jays fall further and further out of it.
Probably gets interesting again if a couple things happen
- More young players including Vlad get any time
- Deadline approaches and they start to sell off any pieces with value
But yeah it is a tough listen just because the team right now is not playing well and quite frankly is pretty dull. There isn't even an individual doing fantastic things to follow.

Imagine how bad it is if you don't care about the Jays at all. Would be even more annoying if they were winning.

I've seen Vlad try and play baseball...its not pretty. I dont see how that is going to improve things.

It was nice to hear him on the cgy airwaves again. He sure has been through a lot over the last few years. I hope we hear more of him on the fan. I would be happy if they found a regular show for him in one of the slots again. He's fun.

And I am not that young, so pinning any hopes of Blue Jays resurgence on me seems optimistic...

Here is my guess as to what I missed today
- a five minute interview with some college basketball coach
- 10 minutes of Jim Rome talking about what a great interview it was
- a couple of callers who get cut off right away
- 2 hours of OJ talk, or as Jim Rome likes to call him, Orenthal
Seems to me that nobody likes Jim Rome. Everybody loves his show or can't stand it. To me, he just rest on his laurels. He hasn't come up with a new idea in decades.

You forgot the requisite tribute to his race horse, shared belief, that died in 2015! Still talks up the "big horse" all the time. Who gives an F about horse racing? Is it such a large demographic that he is doing tribute shows still?
Edit: just realized I responded to a post from 2017. Point still stands though.

One of my memories of Mike Richards shortly before he left for T.O. is when a relatively new Pat Steinberg came on as a guest to the morning show to talk about the Flames game the night before. Pat gave his usual long-winded, repetitive and detailed observation and Richards did everything short of calling him a nerd and pantsing him on the air. He didn't do it in jest or as a bit either, but rather as a "shut up and know your place" comment for all to hear. It left a bad taste in my mouth that he would undermine a colleague on the air, nevermind a young, relatively new, ambitious guy who was trying to find his legs. He came off like one of the cool kids mocking a nerd. I lost a lot of respect for Richards after that.

Ya...Mike Richards time has come and gone. Now his "shtick" just seems tired and forced.

Some of his stuff was good - the Edmonton stuff (which is funny because he was never a true Calgary supporter). His impressions of famous people like Cherry were usually good. His made up songs.
Some was cringeworthy - his treatment of the woman who was a regular on the show for a very short time, his Michelle Wie stuff.
Some just wasn't good - his impressions of Flames players which kinda showed he hadn't met them or heard their voices. His Rita McNeil stuff got old. His bootlicking interviews with guys like Pierre McGuire.

I agree with everything else, but I for one found Richards’s impersonations of Flames players hilarious. I never thought that he was trying to sound like any of them, but rather, his voice-overs were part of the invention of these off-ice characters, which was especially funny.

I know what he was trying to do, but even those weren't on for me. Like Warrener he imagined as some Clint Eastwood tough guy. Warrener was tough enough but he wasn't the strong silent type. His gee whiz Iginla was OK, I guess.

Miikka Kiprusoff the secret psychopath was good, and Robyn Regehr’s phone call to Rhett after the Buffalo trade was a radio classic.

Wasn’t the Regehr/Buffalo call Andrew Walker?

It could have been. I just assumed that during Richards's tenure all the player impersonations were his.
That, and I don't remember Walker ever being funny... ever...

As I recall he road Boomer pretty hard as well. I liked Richards in the morning better than a Warrenerless Boomer.
