There is a reason every other metro system worth anything has automatic doors that don't let the stragglers hold open the doors for the next one who holds the door for the next. All the sudden you've missed 2 light cycles and both lines are delayed.

I'd probably blow my brains out if I had to watch this stupidity on a daily basis.
Yup. CT is soft. Need to teach people that you try to go for a late door and you'll get dragged to your death. None of this pansy hold up hundreds of other people for your slow drunk buddy.

And to be fair, those other metros often have additional doors/walls that sit on the platform itself to serve as an additional barrier. And if you do miss a train, you know that wait for the next one isn't too bad.

But with CT still in the stone age and unable to even have a swipe or tap payment system, that's the least of our worries. ####, we're still on the honor system to get people to pay. It's basically free rides all around the city for everybody.

I took an 80's train in the morning and it got pretty toasty. In 30 degree weather they are just brutal. Probably could outsource them as torture devices to the CIA.

On the plus sides, when I was traveling south by Heritage it looks like a new car was just delivered. Baby steps.

That one is actually an SD160 (middle generation model LRV, Calgary first started getting them in 2001). They are being sent down a few at a time to Sacramento for a midlife refurbishment.

There are still some more of the newest model (S200) to come in. 43 of 69 have been delivered.

To totally retire all of the original U2 cars would require another 55 or so new cars on top of the current order.

more problems

seems like a broken record

The shuttle bus system is a mess. Either they don't show up or nobody knows where to catch one downtown.
Also announcements are never clear. Need better speakers at the stations, or announcements posted on the digital boards.

DELAY DELAY!

I would seriously consider going to work earlier, maybe at 7-8. I have never experienced any problems with the Ctrains at that time the morning, and the trains are practically every 5 minutes.

Thankfully, I missed this one. I was caught in the one last night, not on a train but I sat on a platform for an hour and a half.

The problem with the shuttle buses is you have a few hundred people that come off the ctrain and grows by the minute with new commuters. A shuttle bus pulls up and takes 50 people away. It is like bailing a boat with a tablespoon.

Even when you are close to a garage it takes them at decent amount of time just to get the drivers.

Best thing to do is become a little more familiar with the bus system and have that as a plan B and get to it before others catch on. The other option, if possible is to grab dinner downtown while everything gets sorted.

yes, but the buses are all connected to a train station.
so my situation yesterday was to get from downtown to 69th st station.

I could take the 2? that gets me to the 93/94?
That would probably take more than an hour anyways.
And what if the train delay was short? there are never any clear announcements. They never say 'we'll be delayed an hour'

I guess it does depend on where you are. I am fortunate that I can job on the 3 and it takes me way south. People need to understand that any problem that involves shuttles will be at least an hour delay. There is no sugar coating it. I always double or triple any delay they actually put a number on. When they don't specify a time I don't even think they know.

Yeah, the "10 minutes behind schedule" notice is cute, considering you'll stand at the C-Train platform for 30 minutes before a train shows up. Guess it's better to lie about the time so people don't freak out more?

The is a peeve of mine as well. It is a completely useless statement. I'd much rather them tell us "trains currently aren't running on the red line from Sunnyside to Tuscany" or something that is actually useful. And then when the trains start running, say so. That way, if I have been standing on the platform at Brentwood for 30 minutes already, I can start looking at other options. "10 minutes behind schedule" is not helpful at all.

I think the announcements needs to be visual. What are those big boards for? Red line will coms in 5 minutes doesn't help when there's a delay. And the sound system on the trains and on the platforms are awful.

If there is a delay the board should be red like on twitter.

with a message below.

please be advised due to an accident north of Whitehorn station there is currently no CTrain service between Whitehorn and McKnight stations. There are shuttle buses set up to connect you to and from Whitehorn and McKnight

yeah those speakers on the platforms (and even on the trains...the new trains) are brutal. The messaging can definitely be improved. Even instead of the time put delayed. At least it will clue people in to look at the website or twitter to see what is going on.

I don't get why they don't utilize those fancy new screens they installed at most train stations to direct information to people.

They only help if you are on the platform to see it. Otherwise, like the time when a suspicious package was found at Chinook, you just had some unhelpful police keeping people off the platform.

I wish there was better integration between the transit app and twitter. Especially with recommendations for what to do, which bus or shuttle you should take, or if it’s better to just walk to the next station if it’s close enough.

I was delayed on the U-Bahn in Berlin once. I felt more informed than I do during a Calgary Transit delay. And I don't speak German.
