The most "white trash" stuff that comes up on my facebook feed is from some brothers who emigrated from Peru, the only people who "tsk tsk" them about the things they post are white liberals who try to remind them that because of their skin colour and where they come from, they need to think a certain way.

I disagree with your assessment. The narrator of the video is clearly trying to argue that voter suppression does not exist, but then does not make any effort to interview the demographic that would run the most risk of having their vote suppressed, such as the poor people in rural communities, or, say, elderly immigrants who do not speak English. And it's not a news flash that rich white kids in Berkeley would be ignorant about the demographic most at risk of voter suppression. Rich people of any race would be pretty ignorant about these things.

“Don’t Kid Yourself, White Nationalism Is on the Rise in Canada Too”

Quote:
Canadians have a deep investment in seeing themselves as more enlightened than their counterparts to the south, as if racism and bigotry suddenly stop at the U.S./Canada border. But the racial haven narrative of Canada is a myth, and the idea that anti-Semitism, racism, Islamophobia and anti-immigrant hatred is “not as bad” as in the States is a dangerous one.

Yeah, I got a laugh out of that too. I've found the best way to look at this material is the same way I look at religious pamphlets like the Watchtower. Thumb through it for a bit of insight into the psychology of zeal, chuckle at the zanier assertions, and into the recycling bin it goes.

Well if it wasn't obvious before it is now, Icecube has no interest in any discussion of the things they are posting.

Pretty impressive that an info graphic can show a rising line for the numbers 1414, 1165, 1295 and 1362 as if to give the impression things are getting worse.
When from the limited data set shown, things are actually better compared to 2012.

An animal that visits PGT threads. You think I want 60 posts of gifs all page loading at the same time?

Again- not to pick on you specifically, but it seems that the conversation of racism keeps being framed or brought back to individual acts of hatred.
There are numerous articles in this thread showing that racism is still a massive systemic problem that unfortunately operates at less visible level.
For whatever reason, people don't want to admit that it's a big problem, despite the overwhelming evidence to the contrary.
North America was built on theft of land, on indigenous genocide and cultural genocide, on the backs of black slavery.
It's astonishing how anyone could suggest that centuries of state sanctioned second class citizenship for blacks and indigenous people lasting well until the later parts of the 20th century would have no bearing on the material conditions and outcomes of those groups today.
It blows my mind the lengths people will go to to deny that we have a problem with systemic racism. Minimize, deflect, derail, rinse-wash- repeat.

Not an expert by no means, but the linear trend line would suggest things are rather stable than rising or falling. You can plot the numbers on Excel and have it generate the trend line to see for yourselves too.

I'm sure a few more news story links is all it will take. Keep at it.

So without posting another 10 pages of articles what is your suggestion? Or are you just happy screaming racism about everyone and everything?

Well I guess we are done here then aren’t we? You clearly have no intention of having a rational talk about an incredibly difficult topic.

Clearly some people seem absolutely invested in keeping the narrative of systemic racism framed as historical or keeping the conversation about racism solely about individual acts of intolerance.

I think most reasonable people know racism is a problem. Those that don't are not reasonable and won't be convinced no matter what you post. Those that are reasonable feel bombarded and talked down to.
If you want to have a real conversation about racism we should do that, not just continue to point out how terrible it is and how prevalent it is.
