I suppose the alternative is to allow people to be wrongfully convicted.
Given the options, I'll take the costs associated with a new trial.

Sure now the judge in the new trial can look at the fact that these quacks have been going around the country and showing little or no remorse for what they did and sentence them accordingly.
The Stephens are scumbags.

Could the new judge give them an even harsher sentence? That would be delicious.

On a new trial, yeah, pretty much they'd have to redo all of the sentence configurations.
And what will come up is it feels like the Stephen's were at least a little dishonest in the last trials sentencing phase, and it doesn't help that the husband is motoring to all of the conventions selling his voodoo which craft while ranting about government/big pharma conspiracies against him on line.

The Crown was planning to appeal the sentence - mooted by this decision - so yeah, I expect it will go after them for a bigger sentence this time.

We're rarely on the same page Johnny, but you spoke my mind.
However as much as forced sterilization would be wicked awesome. I believe that frankly these charlatans almost have to be made an example of, because their beliefs and actions are directly counter to the child/children they're responsible for.
I would be ok with a multi-year jail sentence for him, and something for the mother that requires her to have oversight into how she's treating and raising and teaching her children so they don't become anti-science ego maniacs as well.

Hopefully he gets a longer sentence, and has to fork over more money for lawyers. What a turd.
FYI: The Lord had nothing to do with this. But hey, keep praying. Sure helped saved your son. But I guess this is what happens when you turn your families life over to witchcraft and prayer. Next time try doctors and science.

F them. They let their son die a slow and painful death for 'reasons'.

If there's a Lord, I think Stephen's going to get a surprise when he meets him at the pearly gates.
Hey David, pull my finger, no really it'll be funny, oh and stand right behind me

So it was unfair because they provided too much evidence? I don't understand our legal system. Its like truth and victims are the least important elements.

Awe, the poor parents think that the 4 week trial will be 'deeply uncomfortable' for them. Here are some symptoms their son may have had to endure while he was dying of meningitis:
- Fever
- Sensitivity to light
- Seizures
- Confusion & lethargy
- Severe headache
- Nausea/vomiting
- Rash
And some of the symptoms he was reported to have endured:
- Rasping breath
- No appetite or thirst
- Extreme lethargy
- Extreme stiffness of his body & limbs (so severe that his body was arched)
- Such difficulty breathing that he was gasping (At which point it was too late and after a 911 call & trip to the ER, he was pronounced brain dead a couple days later.)
The breathing difficulties lasted almost a week. It makes me sick to think about this little guy suffering like that. And his parents are concerned about the trial being "deeply uncomfortable"? #### them. I hope they're found guilty again and given an even harsher sentence. David Stephen's complete denial & obliviousness to his role in his son's death is very disturbing.

I hope these two get more time from a new trial.
"acted differently than any other reasonable parent"?
I would consider myself a reasonable parent. If my son showed the symptoms their son had, he'd see a doctor by the end of the day.

This guy pisses me off. All these people who think they have certain rights, and no responsibility for their actions. The arrogance of knowing better than people with expertise because of gut feelings & confirmation bias from illegitimate sources, and no ability to critically think and evaluate risks, benefits and consequences of their actions (or lack thereof). This is all about him and his ego, and his son died because of it.
