The Predators are only playing trap hockey because they figured out that's the easiest way to beat the Jets; they didn't play like that for the majority of the regular season.
It's called adapting to your opponent. Hopefully they're successful at it tonight.

As far as I can tell, that has never happened before (since the NHL went to 4 Divisions in 1974-75).
Another oddity, if Winnipeg wins, they'll be the only team in the Conference Finals to not have won their Division in the regular season, yet they will have home ice advantage in the Conference Finals and Stanley Cup Final if they get there.
