Interesting. Is BT reading GG the riot act more than speculation?
I also think the Hamilton situation is interesting. Many people defended having Freddie around but I do believe it bothered people within the organization and the team. Dougie has tremendous skill and upside but I suspect many are also frustrated with him and when people whisper about the team not having what it takes to win big games, I feel he is the player often being thought about.
I'd be quite surprised if he gets moved but I am certain he is going to get a lot of attention from Mr. Peters.

Just got an email for the season end season ticket holder sessions (first week of June) and Ken King is listed as being in attendance as President & CEO. Looks like he's sticking around a little longer in that role.

I saw that as well for STH session. King has to be on a short leash after the arena debacle you would hope.

Ken King being on a short leash is nothing but speculation. He's Gary Bettman for the Flames owners where he gets paid to be the local meat shield for the owners. I would expect they are very happy with the job he's doing as he would have been fired a few years ago if they were holding him responsible for the arena situation.

The debacle is Murray Edward and Nenshi. The two people who control the final decision. Council has specifically stated a committee without Nenshi is how to proceed.

I actually disagree.
Think about it from this perspective: The Flames/CSEC have had every opportunity to do this arena deal for eons.
Ken King chose between $100/bbl and $26/bbl, a PC Government and an NDP Government and Bronco and Nenshi.
He couldnt have possibly timed this worse.
Heads tend to roll for less.

King didn't set the price of oil, elect the NDP, or put Nenshi in office. You're basically saying he should have rushed the whole project several years ago, knowing how bad the future was going to be. Maybe he was supposed to have a TARDIS and take a finished plan for the arena back to 2009?

Fire King because he can't predict the future?

Fire King because he's presided over a poor team for 20 years and a debacle of an arena plan.

No, you misunderstand. We've been told this amazing project was coming for 10 years. Its a 'floating' 10 years.
He had his opportunities to get it done and then rolled out a half-assed Jr. High Powerpoint presentation that a kid would be embarrassed to put their name on and expected a ton of free money.
You say 'predict the future' and it sounds like lunacy and you're right. How about this?
"Embrace opportunities as they present themselves."
See?

For that he should probably be fired. But what makes you think he wouldn't have half-assed it ten years ago?

10 Years ago money was flowing through the streets.
He more than likely would have half-assed it, and thats being generous. Likely quarter-ass at best, but the conditions would have been more conducive to success.

No matter how conducive the conditions, you don't succeed by standing in public with your pants down, pulling your pud.
Anyway, it's quite clear that CSEC did not even think they were ready to make their pitch ten years ago. By the time they got even two of their ducks in a row, Nenshi was in office, and things only got worse from there.

Has anyone ever asked KK why they didn’t present this proposal earlier?

The first time I heard mention of a new arena was probably 2006. At that time King was predicting a finished product within 5 years. I seem to recall him telling the audience the blueprints were in his office and joked that he would love to show them. I think the acquisition of the Stampeders got them thinking bigger. I remember this too, and there is no question I would like to ask KK more than what happened to those plans.

The deal the Oilers got changed the equation. After Katz ruthlessly bent over the City of Edmonton, Flames ownership felt they were entitled to the same deal.
Edmonton is no good.

Yup, he proclaimed the new shiny Enmax Energy Board could be moved to the new arena.

Also Harley Hotchkiss passed away. That's when things really went off the rails in my opinion.
