Haven't been able to find too much info yet on commitments to play the Calgary Challenger event, but I would think that Peter Polansky, Filip Peliwo, and Brayden Schnur would likely be part of the Canadian contingent. If Felix doesn't qualify for Wimbledon, I would think he would be there as well.

Edmund backing up his 3 set victory over Djoker picks up another impressive win beating Goffin rather routinely 6-3, 6-3.
Edmund did a great job of keeping the small in stature but dangerous off both wings because of his ability to strike the ball early and clean Goffin at bay all match with a bunch of thumping, deep and heavy forehands.
This was a relentless and smothering performance by the Brit. Edmund never gave the Belgian much of any opportunity to threaten his serve or really even get into the match.
Edit: and the winner of the Raonic/Shapo match coming up will get an opportunity to take out Edmund afterwards and grab a spot in the semifinals.

I'm pleasantly surprised here. Shapo looking like the man with more experience in this match. I wonder if its more mental than talent with him on clay. Milos looks a bit lost out there in this first set. He needs to refocus and change strategy in the second set.
Shapo up 5-4 now and serving to take the first set.... Canada is in for a real treat this next 10-15 years with the three Canadian heavyweights. I wouldn't be shocked to see them 1,2,3 when Djoker, Nadal, Fed and Murray retire.

Nadal and Fed are never going to retire
Great win for Dennis who now moves up to 34th in the world. Hope he can take out Edmund who has been playing some great tennis this week. For Milos he's still getting back from injury and he's never going to be great on clay, for him this whole year is about Wimbledon and the US Open.

I must say I'm surprised by this result. Shapo has not looked like the player from last year for a number of events now. Good on him for working through it and now making noise on clay against some tough opponents.
Another tough test awaits in Edmund and this win would almost guarantee him a top 30 ranking for Roland Garros.

Brutally honest write-up after the Shapovalov-Raonic match:
https://www.theglobeandmail.com/spor...s-on-opposite/
Quote:
There was little drama in the match. Shapovalov ran around Raonic, while Raonic stood there dumbly watching him do it. At the end, the two embraced, but not warmly. No one enjoys killing their heroes, and heroes definitely do not enjoy being killed.
But that’s what happened in Madrid. This wasn’t a torch passing. This was Shapovalov yanking the torch away and braining Raonic with it before he left.

That's accurate. Milos the bigger man played very small. Denis bossed that match.
Raonic hit only 5 winners that weren't aces.

Might as well jump off the one trick pony. That way you won't be so disappointed when he does wilt away.

Yeah, I mean he's done right, I guess beating the number 4 ranked player in the world a couple of days ago translates into hanging up his racquet.

5/6 net point is the most encouraging thing about the stat line - you would never have thought Shapo capable of that a year ago against a good opponent. He needs to keep coming in and applying that pressure, and continuing to improve in that area.
64% first serve is a problem, though. That part isn't too surprising, but it still needs a lot of work. As it stands, Shapo vs. Edmund sees Edmund as a clear favourite on this surface, you'd have to say.

Sounds about right.
I would characterize the piece as brutally dishonest.
I would also say that the meeting at the net after the match was warm.
To me it seemed like Milos went out of his way when he left the court to walk up to Denis' booth and said something. Tessa Shapovalov responded with, "Thank you". The commentators noted that it was a classy move, a nice touch. I tend to agree.

As soon as I tuned in to watch Felix play this morning (after he had won the opening set 6-3), he fell apart losing the next two sets 6-1 and 6-2. Hopefully, Denis can beat Kyle Edmund later today.

I don't really like saying it, but this writer is a complete loser. It's shocking the Globe even publishes drivel like this that is so beyond a simple opinion piece it shouldn't even qualify. Not only is he hammering on Milos for no reason at all, but he makes Shapovalov sound like a doofus as well.
Go back underneath the rock you crawled out from Cathal and do us all a favour.
