Who wants to see Apocalypto? The subject matter is interesting to me, but I'm still bothered by Gibson's drunken rant. Release date is this Friday.

I think people should get over Gibson's drunken rant and also the Michael Richards thing.

People just say things out of anger and frustration when they are drunk or very aggitated and incensed. The world is too politically correct already.

Yes, Gibson probably has a little subconscious anti-semitism that was engrained into him in his early youth by his crazy father but he's a normal guy and I don't think he outrights hates any particular group. I think he has his frustrations with certain ethnic idiosyncracies that everybody does. And Michael Richards (Kramer) was just trying to find an avenue to attack the hecklers with - but he chose the worst possible route he could have gone. I think he would have been just as outlandish if the hecklers were white - just people wouldn't have made a big deal out of it. He just went out of control, I don't think it has any reflection on his personal beliefs.

if people can't separate to some degree the art from the artist then they are at the whim completely of whatever publicists want to whip up.

that richards thing smells, he used to stage huge anti-semitic things with andy kaufman for kicks, and seinfeld was booked on late night tv weeks before, just happened to be right after this incident and the release of seinfeld season 7, which is now the highest release sell ever for that franchise.

we live in a world of spin, a world of all manners of crap.

I'm sorry but when someone says "Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world". That has nothing to do with the world being too politically correct. It's ignorant, stupid and tremendously biggoted.

I doesn't matter how angry or drunk I was - that type of statement would simply never come out of my mouth.

Anyhow, back on topic, yes I am going to make a point of seeing this in the theatre. Really interesting subject matter and looks like a really well shot movie.

Gibson's rant wouldn't stop me from seeing the film. It's not like the film is a 2 hour rant against jews (unless I'm totally mistaken). It's possible for Gibson to be a bigot, and still make good movies. I like Charlton Heston in movies but think he's one of the biggest ######bags around.

I'll be interested to see how this does. Considering that Tom Cruise's latest movies have been complete flops, and many feel that is due to his odd public beavior, I'm wondering how Mel Gibson's new movie will be received.

Was MI III a complete flop? I thought it was a pretty good movie... don't know how it did at the box office though...

A shame that MI 2 did better than 3... 2 was one of the worst... movies... ever...

I'll definitely make an attempt to see Apocalypto, I don't recall a movie in that style/genre having come out in a while.

If you didn't watch movies based on the personal character of movie stars you would be left with a very short list to choose from depending on what you considered to be just too bad for you to live with.

I know I for sure will never adopt a stance of -- Well this guy is a wingnut because he did this or said that or whatever --therefore ipso facto I don't watch his stuff.

I watch movies I like based on a good story and good acting etc. Their personal lives-- Who cares?

Mel Gibson filmed Apocalypto mainly in Catemaco and Paso de Ovejas in the Mexican state of Veracruz. Gibson uses the Yucatec Maya language[1] in Apocalypto, in the same way he used Aramaic and Latin for his religious blockbusterThe Passion of the Christ. Apocalypto features a cast of unknown actors from Mexico City, the Yucatán, some Native Americans from the United States and Canada, and locals from Los Tuxtlas and Veracruz.

The movie is partially intended as a political allegory about civilizations in decline, in a way referring to the perceived crises Western civilization, and the United States more specifically, may be facing. Gibson compares Mayan human sacrifice with "sending guys off to Iraq for no reason".

The film is allegedly inspired by the text of the Popol Vuh (sometimes called the Maya Bible) and Spanish missionary descriptions of the Maya.

I pretty much have the same stance as you Johnny, although I draw the line at Tom Cruise. The guy has just said too many screwed up stuff, and acts like the biggest tool in the world to the point where I can't disassociate myself the character in the movie to his real world personality.

like i said, i can disassociate most characters with their real personas. it doesnt mean i agree with what they said, but with some people I can immerse myself into who they are on screen and with some i can't.

besides, mel gibson used the term "sugar tits". how can you not love that?
