If he is on the trade block, maybe Hamilton asked to be traded?
Just a thought.

Since it's "Hamilton and Bennett" getting churned around the rumor mill at the moment, any of these ideas wet anybodies whistle around here?
Hamilton and Bennett for Zibanejad, Fast, 9th overall?
Hamilton and Bennett for Konecny, Sanheim, 14th overall?
Hamilton and Bennett for Mantha, Athanasiou, 6th overall?
Hamilton and Bennett for Schmaltz, 8th overall, 28-31st overall?

He gets traded to the Flames not too long ago, signs a lengthy extension and then proceeds to put up multiple career seasons. The fans and the media in Calgary for the most part have also been pretty good to Dougie.
He's cemented himself alongside Gio and they've proved to be a top 10 pairing in the league. Furthermore, the core group of guys in Calgary are all around his age. I just can't see him requesting a trade from all of that.
If he requested a trade now, why wouldn't he have requested to trade to the team he really wants to be with when he was in Boston? I mean I guess it's possible that he's asked for trade, however the reasoning behind it I think would have to be quite unusual.

All pretty reasonable deals. The Detroit deal would be pretty good.

No offence. But I think they all make us worse. But realistic

If they're trading Hamilton (doubtful), they need an impact forward immediately. Not some ho-hum player or pick.

Any interest in Jake Allen?
Mike Smith and Troy Brouwer the other way?
I'm expecting the Blues to make a big change this off season. Would not be surprised if any of Pietrangelo, Tarasenko and Allen are moved
They might be willing to move Fabbri as well given his injuries. High risk high reward

Fact of the matter is Turris was traded for less than the Hamonic package, so was Eberle. Hamonic theoretically should have some value and he is the 4th best dman on the Flames and a far ways behind Hamilton.
|
You know what I meant, I mean if someone wants to overpay anybody is tradeable but the Leafs are not going to pay Nylander to land Hamonic.

Tarasenko on the Mony/Johnny line is a drool worthy thought.
Allen just doesn't seem like he's able to put it all together.

Also, I think Smith is the kind of guy they need more of...
I just think they need to manage his starts better this year.
Ideally he shouldn't play more than 60-65 games imo

So that begs the question, do you trust Gillies/Rittich to build off the experience from last season and take a step forward as a legit back up, or do you look to upgrade the position by trading for a Grubauer type, or sign a legit back up like Hutton or Bernier?

I feel like it’s Rittichs to lose, and they have Gillies as an option if he doesn’t work out. I don’t think we see a goalie move unless they both fail.
I just don’t see it as a high priority until the forward issue is fixed.

Yeah, he may not have looked good after coming back from injury but him and Johnny were the team MVPs. If any goaltending move is made it should be for a reliable backup.

The dream scenario would be the Flames getting Marner in return for Hamilton and then being able to sign Tavares in free agency.
Tkachuk-Tavares-Marner
Gaudreau-Monahan-Ferland
Our top line from last year becomes the second line and we reunite 2 elite junior teammates and add a franchise centre to that line.
Unfortunately I don’t see Toronto considering moving Marner

WRT to the backup goalie question:
I actually though Rittich was pretty good in his limited minutes...i was very encouraged with him until Smith got injured and he was thrust into the starters role...
I think the Flames need to see what they have with Gillies/Rittich and even Parsons before the pursue a veteran backup...Calgary needs to develop one of these guys into a starter, rather than trying to find them through trades...
I would ride with whomever wins the backup spot and then see how they do when called upon...of course, you need to keep tabs on other players you might be able to trade for if those guys falter...
But i honestly don't remember who the last legit starting goalie calgary developed (that stayed with the organization unlike JSG)...? I mean does Kidd count? because outside of him my brain rewinds all the way back to Vernon...

The only way you trade Hamilton is for a 1st line RW, and a high quality one at that. Absolutely a pure hockey trade. Anything else, is not worth it.

I saw more leafs games than I had cared to this season, and he absolutely drives their offence. He’s as important to them as Gaudreau is to us.

I would do mantha+anthansiou+6th overall for Hamilton alone and then use Bennett with the 6th to ensure we get Tkachuk 2
