Default Important note: Off-season thread

Folks the off-season upon us.
The purpose of this thread is to provide a general overview on how the off-season will playout. As most of you know, we tackle things in a sequential order, but at this point of the off-season it is difficult to provide firm dates for all items.

A couple of immediate actions/reminders
- If you are unsure if you wish to remain GM of your team please let us know sooner rather than later. It is only fair to the new GM that they have the off-season to prepare their team
- If you have any questions about rules, please ask
- Remember you do NOT need cap space to sign RFAs but you DO need cap space to sign your UFAs. And all UFAs re-signed are 3 years and 1 way. You cannot trade UFA rights. You must re-sign them or not sign them.
- If you release a player please post in the free agency thread thaht will be started.
- If you trade or acquire a draft pick please post in the draft pick thread
- Trading before re-rates is done at your own risk - ratings will change primarily based on the last season's performance.

Immediate things you should be doing:
- Prepare for the draft!
- If you owe conditional picks in the 2018 draft – take care of them sooner rather than later
- Update your trade block
- Trade, trade, trade!
- If you someone on IR right now please send an email to take them off. You can send either individual requests via your main GM page or send in a batch request. Whatever is easier.

Generally the order will go like this
- Rollover (1 year advancement on ages and contracts)
- Our draft: Saturday June 16 10 am Calgary time (1 week before NHL draft)
- Re-rates and new RFA/UFA grids
- Deadline to bring players above waiver threshold to the CPHL
- RFA re-signing
- UFA re-signing
- UFA batches

Also please remember we don't process stuff as often in the off-season. It is a bit of a welcome break for us as well. The sim will be updated after free agency.

Couple other things
- Trading can now resume
- You may not sign any free agents that are in the system already. The only ones you can re-sign are ones that aren't in the DB at all that you request ot be added
- The watchdog is off its leash. You do not need to be roster or cap compliant in the off-season. Per above, you do need cap space to re-sign or sign a UFA
- Buyouts cannot happen until after the rollover so please hold off submitting them. Any release/buyouts will hit your 2018/2019 cap.

If anything is unclear PLEASE ask questions.

If I want to re-sign Vlasic, who will be a UFA, how do I do that right now?

In the rules it says

You can sign your own UFA players according to the UFA grid posted on the CPHL forum on Calgarypuck.
Grids are updated yearly based on the new ratings that are set.

How does this work?

The league will notify us. Won’t be for a while, comes after ratings and rfa signings

If you are resigning a ufa the deals are all three years and 1 way
Once we get to bidding on ufas not resigned they are awarded to the tam based on the following formula term x per year salary x ahl percent

What re-rates happen and UFA signing starts, each team signs their own UFA's first but is there a trade window there prior to Batch 1 UFA signing to trade recently signed UFA's that teams decide to keep?

There would be a very short window but once UFA are re-signed we will proceed immediately with batch 1.

I'm a little confused on off-season player movement. Can I move players back and forth freely right now between the main club and the AHL club? Or, do the rules still apply and if he is 24 or older he must go on waivers?

As an example, I just moved Nick Cousins up to the big club. He's 24 years old. Does he now have to clear waivers to be sent back down in the off-season?

The Colorado Avalanche have put a claim in on Nick Cousins.

Looks like Nick Cousins is staying up with the big club this year!

If indeed you move a player up they are subject to waivers going down if 24 years or older.
Those 23 or under can move up and down, once re-rates are released we will establish the ratings threshold to establish which players must be on the big club or be subject to re-entry waivers. This is designed to prevent teams from stashing NHL players in the minor so they can bid on free agents. For instance I could move Mackinnon and his huge salary down which is what we don't want.

But for now that threshold and deadline hasn't been set.

Any update on re-rates? It’s hard to make decisions on who to keep, who to cut or trade without knowing this.

Usually we get to that early to mid July. Expect about the same this year.
