Crosby dominated the WHC any time he went. McJesus isn’t in his league.

Pettersson looks really good with the dangles. Playing with Backlund for Sweden. Will be interesting to see if he can do the same against NHL defencemen.

I am curious as well. Based on this thread, I thought only Edmonton Oilers were involved in this game.

2-2 with minutes to go and Draisaitl loses the icing faceoff clean and then whiffs on a referee-assisted breakaway.

No Good.

I think the breakaway thing is overblown...league average is probably 20% or less and JG likely scores in that range. I'm sure it could improve with his skillset but still. I think it's just the fact he gets so many so there a lots of misses.

I watched the 1st and part of the 2nd.

The P.K. was very aggressive. There was forechecking up the ice. They stood up on the defensive blue line.

The P.P. utilized a 1-3-1.

I paid special attention to the defencemen. Two things:
-at 5 v 5, they were very involved in the offence, often leading the rush;
-at 5 v 5, they seemed rather passive at the offensive blue line in the 1st, giving it up repeatedly (I couldn’t tell whether this was because the defencemen were instructed to be passive or whether there just weren’t many plays directly up the wall); this changed in the 2nd when I noticed repeated occasions of the defencemen standing up at the offensive blue line.

I thought the breakouts were just fine in general.

Peters’ system seemed conducive to lots of offensive zone time (plenty of cycling the puck).

The biggest takeaway was about the good chances. I looked for the “cross royal road pass chances.” I think Kinkaid was excellent, but I also feel some of the 44-24 shots and Kinkaid’s superior save % was the Americans’ ability to get “cross royal road pass chances.” I think the Canadians allowed a lot of odd man rushes. I’m not sure if this was sloppiness or something about Peters’ system. All this said, Canada also got plenty of these chances.

Maybe Peters will figure out how to shut down McDavid while he is coaching him

McDavid sitting in the penalty box during the shootout is the season highlight for me.

anything to make the "generational talent" squirm is enough for me, Especially on the international losers level.

The major thing I noticed in that game was how good offensively all of Canada's lines looked that weren't littered with Oiler players. Seriously, the McDavid line was Canada's worst line by far in that game. I think they were on for 3 goals against and only one for. Plus they did jack squat with their powerplay time.
