Yeah, I don't really get why Flames fans, of which I am one, hate the Jets so much. Of course, I'm in Ontario, so I'm not immersed in Alberta's hockey culture.
The rivalry with the Oilers needs no explanation.
There have been plenty of playoff series and bad blood between the Flames & Canucks.
The leafs are just downright annoying and obnoxious, they monopolize media coverage, and then there are the trades with the Flames...
There's some Finals history with the Habs.
Apart from their owner, I don't see much reason to dislike the Sens.
And then there are loathsome non-Canadian teams like the Dirtbag Ducks, and there's some history with the Kings & Sharks.
But the Jets? I don't remember the playoff series the Flames had against them in the mid-80's. Are they that big a deal now? And Winnipeg lost their team to a city whose franchise ended up in terrible shape financially and which has been pretty much irrelevant since moving to Phoenix. I find the Jets to be one of the few feel-good teams.
Being a sports fan is not rational. Cheering for a certain group of millionaires because their home rink is in your city is pretty ridiculous.
You are trying to make sense of why we hate the Jets and love the Flames.

I hate the jets because they've been annointed for the last four years. In 2015 people had them as a cup dark horse when they got swept. Going into 2016 it was kids like Ehlers and Morrissey that supposedly gave them the best prospect base, even though that was no better than the typical prospect base. Going into 2017 they got Patrik Laine handed to them on a platter. Seeing them fail every time people hyped them was glorious. Now they are the last Canadian team standing?
**** that. Go Preds.

pretty simple, I hate all other Canadian teams because the media here keeps telling me I have to jump on their bandwagons when they make a run, because they're our country's representatives and we have to bring the cup home. eff that. if the Jets or any other non-Flame Canadian franchise wins, are they going to take Stanley on a cross-country tour and have a parade in downtown Calgary so that we can all bask in our Canadian hockey supremacy?
nope they'll keep that sucker all to themselves and whenever there's an argument over which franchise is better, they'll just milk that championship for decades to come, no matter how much they eventually suck later on. if anyone is going to behave that way it should be us Flames fans. so crash and burn Jets, I hope you get clubbed over the head with a 500 pound catfish and go home empty handed by end of week. all in good fun of course!

You hate the Jets because in 2017 or 2016 I forget when, a hockey magazine predicted them to win the cup in 2019?
Cool.
In other news, the Jets are getting a fly over tonight
I honestly thought I could get behind the Jets this post season as they're a small market Canada team not named Edmonton. But alas, once the second round started, I found myself rooting for the Preds. So I've come to the realization that other than the Flames and the Sens, I'll probably be cheering against all other Canadian teams.
So go Preds! Plus, PK winning it would piss off so many of my friends and co-workers that for some reason don't like the guy (me personally, guy is one of my favourite players in the league).
Ok hope this doesn't show how out of touch I am, but why does Subban get booed anyway? He's certainly no Cory Perry, or Ryan Kesler or Kevin Bieksa... where/why did the Subban hate start?
