Owners become easy targets when they want to be heavily involved in sports decisions. Dundon likely doesn't have much of a background in scouting, player contracts, sports management, etc. He's not treating his hockey team like a business because if he was he'd hire competent hockey people and let them run the business. When owners want to become too involved when they lack the expertise to do so I think they should be ready for some criticism.

Dundon bought a team that is doing worse every year (attendance). He literally just got the team, a few months ago. He probably knows more than most of us do about running a business, let's see where this goes.

According to the Flames' Media Guide and website, Steve Pleau is the team's only pro scout. It looks like he's been in that position since 2010-11.

That does seem like a position that they should look to bolster a bit. I'm sure they had 2 or 3 pro scouts a couple of years ago (Michel Goulet was one for a while).

Mind you, Newy was a GM, so you'd have to look at his Dallas deals too.

I have no idea if the media guide is updated, but isn't the Flames' site notoriously terrible with updates? I haven't heard of Goulet moving on, but who knows. This past deadline I didn't hear a mention of the pro-scouts (and usually you do) so maybe you are on to something here. I agree that it definitely needs bolstering.

Yeah, the website isn't great which is why I checked the Media Guide. It's always up to date at the start of each season.

Apparently, Goulet's last season with the Flames was 2015-16 and he was with the Ducks this season.
