Default Recommend a good West/South West Calgary hotel

Originally planned to stay with some friends this week on our way through Calgary but the family is sick so we're going to quarantine ourselves.

Instead we're going to get a hotel, my wife wants to hit Ikea I was planning to kill time at Sentry Box while she's is there, then the next morning we are heading out the west end towards Kelowna.

Anyone recommend a good family friendly hotel that is decently close to Ikea but has good access to leave the city the next morning? Good family friendly restaurant near by that hotel as well?

Thanks in advance.

Theres a hotel right behind the Ikea. Sandman I think it is. Has a couple of restaurants in it. Moxies and a Dennys.

Yeah, you can't get any closer to Ikea than that. It's also very close to Glenmore to get you out of the city.

Don’t forget that hotel,is also close to the shark club.

There is no great hotel for you to stay at, since the sentry box is more on the outside of downtown and ikea is in the se, so stay close to one or the other - i’d opt to stay close to the ikea

If you are leaving during the morning rush it will be a little slow heading out glenmore, but otherwise, it will not be too bad.

Blackfoot Inn is also in the vicinity albeit it not as close as Sandman. Blackfoot and 58th Ave. Less than 10 minuets from IKEA and would be slightly more convenient for leaving town in the morning

What time are you getting in and leaving at?

If time permits I'd head downtown for supper and a walk from Princes Island to the Peace Bridge.

If you want a quick exit I'd stay at the 4 points Sheraton or one of the Hotels near COP. It's not near IKEA or Sentry Box but if those are the day you arrive activities then a 1/2hr drive after you are done to completely avoid morning rush hour would be worth it.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions, lots of help.

We are getting into town around 3 PM and leaving the next morning around 9 or 10 AM.

That would be literally about a 45 second walk.

Sandman behind IKEA does make the most sense. Easy access to Glenmore to get west in the morning and there won’t be any significant traffic going from SE to NW at that time of day. Wife can walk to the hotel if you leave her at IKEA to to drive over to Sentry Box.

It might make more sense find a hotel close to things you want to do rather than near the IKEA. The reasoning I would say is that if your wife is buying anything at IKEA she will probably need the car to haul them back to a hotel regardless of distance, and if you are just checking out board games you are in a better position to just walk back to your hotel with games in hand. That said, not sure about the hotels. It’s not really a high season right now, so downtown hotels should be cheap.

The Delta on Southland, just off MacLeod is quite nice and close to Ikea. Also has a pool and waterslide for the kids.

Sandman is really nice by Ikea. Hotel Arts is another good option, but more inner core, they have a nice pool, easy to walk around and just a short drive to Ikea. I've noticed some good rates on rooms there as well.

I used to work there a long time ago. A pretty nice hotel. However it was formally known as the Best Western Hospitality Inn, and therefore I will always refer to is as such. But in a good location, stores everywhere, transit is close, and Deerfoot a couple minutes away.

There are a bunch of hotels down MacLeod Trail not too far from IKEA if you don't want to do Sandman for whatever reason. The Econo Lodge South Calgary is a 10 minute drive from IKEA and probably cheaper than The Sandman, the Carriage House is right there, and the Delta South.
