On one hand, I’m not sure many teams would give up a mid-early 1st rounder for him, but I’m also not sure that an unproven prospect who isn’t top-flight would be the best return for Brodie.
|
I think I'd rather use Brodie+ on a guaranteed top 6 asset today then hope say Matthew's little brother turns into a top 6 winger. It could happen but I think we need immediate impact for this next season.

Makes sense. Want players who will contribute now.

He might be, but he’s also 2nd in NA central scouting. We wouldn’t be he only ones if that’s the case.

What a bizarre statement. How long have you been on this board? You do realize some people here thought Matt Tkachuk was massively overrated too right? He only road the coattails of Marner and Dvorak according to some, didn't have any elite skills.
Brady Tkachuk is a good prospect. I haven't seen him play so its hard to have a great opinion on him. I assume you must have seen him a ton if you're willing to make a statement that bold. But I'm guessing you actually haven't seen much of him at all.

So all the scouts who rank Tkachuk high are wrong? I've seen it suggested that people rank him high because of his last name. Perhaps, but in that case maybe he's actually #6 or 7 instead of #4, which isn't really that overrated.

This is such a deep draft, teams that will miss out on Dahlin will still end up with some very good players.
Svechnikov, Zadina, Tkachuk, Boqvist, Hughes, Wahlstrom, Bouchard, Dobson, Farabee
Will be interesting to see the results on Saturday.

It's depressing how little interest I have in this year's draft. Hopefully Tre makes a move or two at the draft

What if Brady is a Tkachuk-like player in the way Brett was a Lindros-like player?

I think he will drop. Ottawa could surprise everyone and draft a defenceman to prepare for a possible Karlsson departure.
Buf - Dahlin
Car - Svech
Mtl - Zadina
Arz - Hughes
Det - I don't know what their needs are but they'll probably pick Wahlstrom if he's available.
Van - Boqvist
Chi - Bouchard
Nyr - Dobson
Edm - Tkachuk

Drafting Tkachuk would be such an oilers thing. Then they would just never shut up about which is better.

I actually wouldn't mind that pick. It would make for a great storyline in the BOA which has sucked for years.
Plus, all stats point to Brady not having much of a chance to be as good as Matthew so they'd keep yapping about the better brother while always having the sh**tier brother.

Boqvist, Bouchard and Dobson will all be very good defencemen in the NHL, so hopefully none of them fall to the Oilers lol

Am I the only one who doesn’t think Tkachuk is overrated? That kid is amazing. No way he falls below 5th if you ask me.

Have you seen his stats and NHLe? I'm sure he'll turn into a player because of his tenacity and toughness, but his stats simply don't make him a top 5 pick. He projects to be quite less offensively productive than his brother.
Of course you can say "Well, we don't know until he starts playing in the NHL" but that ignores the point that the NHL draft and specifically the rankings are all about projections to NHL success.

Scouts don’t just look at his stats. And if he stays in college expect his numbers to continue to rise and thus his NHLe will rise.
This talk of Brady bring massively overrated is BS IMO. But I bet most of us haven’t seen much of Brady play at all. Don’t pretend you can about players by looking at their stats, that isn’t how scouting works

Wouldn't be surprised if he reads this site. Lets not judge him too harshly before we see what he can do.

Have barely watched the kid... How would you compare his game to his elder brother?

I agree, I don't think Brady will be as good as Matthew honestly. I've taken a keen interest this past year watching him and like many have said here the only big selling point on him is that he's bigger and meaner. Some seem to think that Brady's ceiling might be higher, but I think his floor is drastically lower than Matthew's is.
With that in mind Matthew has a better overall package, like our new coach said there aren't 5 players in the NHL like Matthew. So while I think his brother will be a an NHL player for sure I can totally see him being the guy to fall deeper this draft especially with the high end skill in the top 10 alone.
Matthew had better stats in Junior vs Brady in College but also in the USNDTP:
Matthew - U.S. National U18 Team USDP 65games 38g 57a 95pts 114PIM
Brady - U.S. National U18 Team USDP 61games 25g 29a 54pts 127PIM
I don't buy into the hype that Brady will be better, I think people see what Matthew turned into and that's driving up his brother stock but I'm confident we got the better of the two.
