Nylander is the type of player I think CGY needs. I'm talking about the skillset to get the puck from the d and skate it through the neutral zone, carry over the blue line and create off the rush or start plays down low.
Electric speed, the hands to handle the puck at pace and the brains to make and finish plays.
IMO the Flames forward group has only two players who can control the play - Gaudreau and Backlund - in that way.
Tkachuk is amazing but he isn't going to carry the puck through the neutral zone, he dominates below the circles. He needs the puck brought in so he can set up shop - why the partnership with Backlund was good.
Monahan is an elite finisher but we haven't see top end ability to carry the puck and distribute yet.
I don't necessarily see that CGY is lacking a finisher to be able to be a good team (although they do need to improve goal scoring) but they need another
dynamic forward who can control the play and create quality chances.
