Does Brad go to the lottery? Will we see him on TV? I hope he attends, it should be mandatory for all team's who missed the playoffs to send a representative from management to the draft lottery.

He's not going, as there is no reason to be there.

O.K. there has been a lot of talk on whether or not MacTavish has actually done a good job for us, most fans on this board are very basic in their analysis and I feel would change their opinion entirely if the team was successful.

I am ok with the rest of this, but better then Pittsburg? They will have to win the Stanley Cup(maybe even twice) to show that. Right now they have beaten the Ducks and look good against the Sharks, those two teams are marginally better then Calgary, lets just wait before we anoint them as Champions.

That would be great, so it could be overblown some more.

I checked the video from the 2010 Draft Lottery where Boston owned Toronto's first round pick from the Kessel trade. Chiarelli attended the lottery on behalf of the Bruins and the card that Daly held up had the Bruins' logo on it.
Except for a passing mention by Duthie, you wouldn't even have known it was originally the Leafs' pick.
This morning, the NHL tweeted out this...
It's not Calgary's pick anymore.

You think 15 GMs will be there?

14 GMs will be there.
All the ones who have a pick involved.

Not every team sends their GM (last year, Draper was there on behalf of the Wings, for example), but every team should have a representative.

With the percentage chances being so spread out it is really bad to have traded the first round pick. If the isles get dhalin with our pick there will be fallout in calgary and the team psyche will need to be mended. To think this would just be passed off as a random ball scenario is wishful thinking

What type of fall out and why?
Frankly I think the over reaction is from the fans.
The organization likely sees it as a sunk cost they can’t control and are more focused on what happens now

I think you're being a little optimistic here. That pick turning into a top 3 selection would be akin to throwing a stick of dynamite at a fanbase whose loyalty has already been shaken. The effect that would have on the morale of the fanbase would absolutely result in lost revenue. Between that and the ongoing arena fiasco I'm sure the organization very much cares about saving face right now, even if it doesn't affect their work directly.

I think the fans will be upset but the post suggested the team psyche would need to be repaired. I just don’t see it

From a rational point of view it’s good for the Flames that the islanders move up as it keeps a quality player away from western teams

Team psyche? Yeah, no way. The players don’t care.

This is such weird logic. It’s ok to not like the trade, but it was made a year ago, and now we know what BT gave up was a pick with a 3.5% chance at 1st overall. At this point we should be cheering for the Islanders to hit as that is a better outcome than any western conference team hitting for the Flames.

Yeah, the players on the team will really wish that (a) their teammate Hamonic who they seem to like a lot is not there and (b) there is one less spot for a defenceman that guys like Kulak, Rasmus, Valimaki can try for.

B) is incorrect. In a world where Hamhuis remained as the number 4 dman in New York and we received Dahlin, there would not be one less spot for a dman.
Not sure if the Flames players would rather have a generational dman or Hamonic. It depends on how much they like Hamonic.

You can rationalize but it still will make Treliving's deal look really bad and thats the reality of the situation. I would bet that he is concerned and will not be happy if the Islanders win the lottery, and it will be quite a media story.
I am hoping that Buffalo, Montreal or one of those other eastern teams that are not the Islanders win. For me that would be the best choice of a bad scenario. Even though the Flames do not have a pick this is very much a draft that is significant for Flames fans and the team.

The fall of a lottery ball doesn’t change how the deal should be evaluated
