Does anybody else see this as a cost-cutting move? I understand everything that has been said with regards his hockey performance and such but wouldn't it make sense to keep him around in SOME capacity? He was probably earning $3 million year.
Say he moved to Sr. Advisor role, making $1 mil a year while working from home in Toronto and coming to Calgary 3-5 times a year for hockey meetings and to deal with the business and charity side of the Flames. Why would he turn that down without the workload of the POHO role? The rationale for WHY he was hired initially still do exist if you go by the news and press conferences at the TIME of the hiring
1) Provide a leadership and mentorship role to management from someone with 25+ years experience in many different areas of the game.
2) Reduce the load of management for things such as the press and community events so that they can concentrate on hockey and decisions for the club.
3) Wasn't this POHO role suppose to be the next best thing for getting the Flames into a Cup contender?
I do think it's a NET loss to the organization and the city as a whole for him not being here. I am sad to see him go on some levels and I was NEVER a fan boy of him being some "Elite Top Manager" but I do think he had a lot to offer Flames and company.
Best of luck to whatever he does decide to do longer term

Right... that’s like saying “the people who say I’m obese never saw me when I was morbidly obese”.

Hitmen - 0 Memorial Cups
Flames - missed playoffs in 9 of 17 seasons since being hired as President in 2001. Just 1 Stanley Cup appearance.

Won a WHL championship, lost in the finals once, mad it to round 3 4 other times. Missed the POs twice, in a league where you lose your players constantly.

You convinced me. Ken King is qualified to be President of a WHL team.

Why stop at just the Hitmen and Flames?
Roughnecks - 1 NLL championship finals, playoffs every year except 2017
Stampeders - 2 Grey Cups, 5 GC finals, playoffs every year
If you’re going to make a point, don’t cherry pick 2 of the 4 organizations he runs

Zero memorial cup wins isn't something to be miffed about. 60 teams compete to be one of 4 teams to make it to the Memorial Cup tournament. They've made it twice in their 24 year existence. It doesn't seem like much, but it is, especially when it is a development league and player turnover is much higher than the pros. In that 24 years this year was only their 4th time missing the playoffs. That's pretty good!

To be fair, there are only 9 teams so statistically you should win one every 9 years to be average. So they are a bit above average.

If you tally up Brian Burke's entire career as a team executive (starting with the Hartford Whalers) how many times did his teams make the playoffs?

Local social media personality Mike Morrison has some thoughts on Burke that have nothing to do with hockey:

This is such archaic thinking.
Try going to a job interview all dressed up at Facebook. I've literally had friends interview only to have the interviewers lightly rib them about their suit while the interviewer is wearing a t-shirt.
Are tech engineers not professionals? I don't know a single engineer that wears a suit to work. Modern companies have come to realize that just cause you're wearing a suit doesn't necessarily mean you're a talented engineer.

Reminds me of my time in software in Calgary. When I worked there, late 90s, I wore a suit and tie. Every day. It was expected, at least at that time, though maybe part of it was being on a project at TCPL.
Fast forward to being "mature", and working in Silicon Valley... I feel overdressed if I have anything more formal than a t-shirt. I actually have 50-60 t-shirts in my collection, and pride myself on new and interesting ones all the time.

Wasn't a Burke fan and don't really care that he is gone, but he did provide a settling influence at a time the team needed it. Enjoy your next endeavor Mr. Burke.

Any speculation on GG being BB's man and not Tre's? Likely not just stirring the pot.

The Stamps are WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY above average in the CFL the last 10 years.
Unfortunately they like to choke in the Grey Cup frequently, but their record overall is unbelievably dominant. Like scary dominant. Bunch of stupid chokers, see, now I'm getting all riled up about the Stamps again haha.

I give Hufnagel 100% of credit for that. None to KK whatsoever.
