Depends how much the Oilers offer him. Assuming it's less than he was making as the Flames HC (which was peanuts by all accounts), the Flames would need to top him up to the amount they owed him for this year.

So if the Oilers had half a brain, they'd offer him $1 for the first year and make the Flames pay the rest?

He was an assistant in Van before he came to Calgary, didn't do them any good.

Woodcock to bakersfield as head coach seems stupid, but that's what is cooking

what a situation. Bring in two guys ready to be head coaches and have them scrap over who gets the interim job when mclellan proves he still has no answers. May as well keep woody here too, there's plenty of room in the volkswagon........ What a circus show this will be. When the players stink it out to start the season, do they get to vote on interim head coach?

If the Oilers stumble out of the gate, I wonder if they fire McLellan and promote Gulutzan?

That is my thinking.

The way the Flames played against the oilers during GG's tenure, it is no wonder that they would want him. He's already proven that he will do what it takes to help the oilers win.

Always dangerous hiring potential HC assisting a current HC in hot water.

But do they really want a GG 5-man system in Edmonton? It might work for the bottom half of their slower Fwd roster, but it would neuter McDavid and Drai. Plus, their D are worse puck movers, I'm not sure they would handle a GG system any better than the Flames.

I think there's probably a team complexion that jives with GG's style. But the Flames weren't it, and I think the Oilers definitely aren't it.

Aren't the old assistants hand picks and have they not followed McLellan around? Not really making things easier on the coaching staff. Probably found it hard to fire him with him still having 2 years left on that 5 year contract he has.

You have to wonder if McLellan secretly wishes he was fired instead of being held on. Any coach would fail with this tire fire of a team that Chia pet built

Is that true? Wouldn't this be something specific to GG's contract. Unless there's a coaches collective bargaining process for some of the basic rules.

Here's to GG bringing his battle of Alberta intensity to the oilers!

I'm not really crazy about GG working for the enemy. He will definitely have insight on how to exploit the Flames weaknesses. BOA record has been bad enough the last couple seasons.

Honestly I think GG would make a good assistant coach, he’s just not head coach material yet.

That said, the meltdown in Edmonton would be glorious if he does end up there.

He kind of was the Flames weakness. Not so sure he'll be a factor.

I actually like the players' chances of exploiting Gulutzan's weaknesses over Gulutzan exploiting the players.

From a schadenfreude standpoint, Gulutzan with the Oilers is the ideal situation. Will definitely result in the best GIFs
