Ok, ok, but how would you feel if Tkachuk had scored nearly a point per game over his young career?

What if he had just scored 9 points in a 7 game series?

More or Less untouchable?

Someone please answer that for me.

They have Morgan Reilly already.

If they were hot to trot for Hamonic, why on earth would they think Hamilton is going to solve their problems?

They need actual defense, not a guy who scores a bunch from the defensive position.

If Toronto is going to be interested in any Flames it's going to be Hamonic or Gio, not for a facsimile of what they already have in Gardiner and Reilly (Brodie and Hamilton).

Their top 3 is Reilly, Zaitsev and Gardiner. Is that a group that desperately needs a Dougie Hamilton? How does adding Hamilton help them at all, especially at the expense of an ELC forward scoring 50+ points?

Is any Flames fan clamouring for another Brodie at this point after missing the playoffs, or are many fans here trying to find a way to trade him because he's fallen out of favour due to being unreliable defensively?

Seriously, someone explain it to me without mentioning Hamilton's height.
They need a RH defensemen hence their interest in Hamonic over the summer. I expect the fact that Hamilton is a RHS, is big, an excellent skater, has very good advanced stats, and led the league in goals by a defenseman may be a reason that the Leafs may be interested. Just a hunch though. Reilly is a nice player but he's not much of a goal scorer and Hamilton has a higher ceiling.

This comparison is non sensical though. Tkachuk is on the same level as Nylander and Marner. Zaitsev and Reilly aren't really that close to Hamilton.

The leafs finished tied for 3rd in goals.

Do they need a guy who scores more goals?

I'm confused here.

I'd say, as a comparable, Reilly is perfectly fine. Younger and outscored Dougie this season.

The bigger issue is that the Flames need forwards, not defense, so no I would not make that trade.

Very strange post. How does adding a guy that would automatically be your best defensemen not move a team forward? It makes them better because Hamilton is a very good defenseman and his addition slots down all the other defenders as it's a lot less ice time they have to give to Gardiner, Zaitsev, Hainsey, etc.

Reilly and Hamilton are the same age.

Reilly is on a cheaper contract for a longer term than Hamilton.

Reilly just outscored Hamilton, beating Hamilton's career high in points by 2.

Because they would be giving up a one dimensional winger that scores goals to get Hamilton so offense subtracted to get offense and a better defenseman that's going to further help the transition game and special teams. That's what's being discussed right (Nylander)? I'm not a big advanced stats guy but Hamilton is right up there with Gio and better in some metrics.

Hamonic is they guy the Leafs should want. But he's not going anywhere, for a number of reasons. Brodie is the guy they should least want. Hamilton is offensive, which they don;'t need, true, but IMO he is still able to get a whole lot better defensively - he has the tools and a lot of his issues are simply in getting caught. he makes quite a few nice defensive plays with his stick and speed (he is faster than people think - he gets back quickly enough and his reach gives him an advantage).

Maybe we can fool them into thinking Stone is a great stay at home defenceman.

Please. Hamilton would have had 20+ goals and 60 plus points playing on that team and not buried on the 2nd PP unit like in Calgary. Reilly will never be the goal scoring threat Hamilton is.

Because I don’t think Hanilton is a very good defensive d man. Which Toronto sorely needs. So trading a good young forward for a D man that doesn’t really improve your defence in the way you need... why would they do that? Can Hamilton hold down a D pair defensively? I don’t believe he can.

As misinformed as your opinion is you are entitled to it but you aren't an NHL GM. Saying Hamilton wouldn't improve the Leafs is beyond silly. Did you not watch last night's game?

Has Reilly been on one of the most statistically dominant defensive pairs over the last two seasons while scoring those points?? Believe all you want that Hamilton is only an offensive player. If that's your position then no argument made here will likely change your mind.

29 (pro-rated) ESP to Dougie's 32 EVP. Rielly had less time on the PP. Rielly had to play with Hainsey, not Giordano throughout the season. No one should be getting their panties in a bunch comparing the two given the original point that was made.

But some posters here are trying to say that Hamilton wouldn't help the Leafs. You see what I am getting at? Just how silly that sounds? Maybe, just maybe Reilly and Hamilton would be a really, really good top pairing and Hainsey not being on a top paring would be really good for the Leafs.

Imagine how much better off Rielly would have been if he was playing with Hamilton instead of Hainsey.

That's the point. Hamilton would be on the top pairing in Toronto and make the team better.

Maybe not. But.....

Hamilton had 12 PP points last year (6 goals), so he had 11-21-32 stats 5v5.

Reilly had 5 PP points last year (1 goal), so he had 5-42-47 5v5. He had more points 5v5 that Hamilton had in all situations.

Reilly plays vs. the other teams top players, he's their #1 shut down d-man.

Thee are many people who would think that Morgan Reilly is a better d-man that Hamilton when you factor in contract and defensive responsibilities.
