Gaudreau - Tavares - Bennett
Tkachuk - Monahan - Ferland
Jankowski - Backlund - Frolik
Eatbread/Klimchuk/Dube/etc. - Shore - Lazar

That is how you win cups. Only the Penguins would be better down centre ice. Literally dream of Tavares a Flame. Give him max contract and don't look back.

Edit - Forgot Janko

Off the top of my head Vancouver and Vegas.

Just see no way Tavares lands in Calgary to play for the Flames. No way.

Probably very slim chance. The biggest thing we have going for us is we are probably 1 of 2 or 3 teams that can offer max contract while still being a cup contender.

Vegas is the real fear. Van and montreal pose all of the same problems as calgary but aren't in good shape team wise right now. Detroit is also a long way from contending.

What makes you think that the team will want to pay one player 12 million?

There's a reason there is an internal cap of 6.75 with Gio, and the reason Mony and Johnny had to sign for less.

You think all of a sudden they're going to authorize almost double that?

I don't see Tavares as a guy who's go to Vegas, he just doesn't strike me as that kind of guy. I think the Flames have a better chance than most but the isles still have the best chance.

They're not gonna be able to follow that "internal cap" forever. Top players are getting paid too much now for that to be realistic.

For a franchise #1 center, and a modern day cup?

Yes.

So they repeatedly spend to the cap. But they have an internal cap on players? Flames need to operate without the option to exceed 7 million on any player?

Just cannot see Treliving going full term and max cap. Just does not seem to be that guy.
Even anything over ten I can see Brad going nah.

It's true. Its on paper right in front of your eyes. I don't understand why this is confusing.

Gio would be the first to say "Forget the internal cap".

Max contract, assuming an $80 million cap, is $16 million per year. You still on board with that?

Tavares doesnt guarantee the flames a cup but just because he hasnt won one in new york doesnt mean he cant win one here if he signs.

What it does do though is improve our roster significantly at a very important position.

In addition to the other teams mentioned, SJ will have a lot of cap space next season. And there isn't a player in the league who wouldn't want to live in the Bay area.

Don't count out Vancouver Either. They have all the monies to burn and could use a 7 year commitment to fill their roster. Take some heat off Dahlen (NOT Rasmus) and Petterson as they start their roll into the league.

Tavares/Boeser should have some appeal to the player.
