retired Toronto Police officer, Fred Iannuccilli, said the officer followed procedure “as close as possible.”

“I thought it was excellent actually,” said Iannuccilli, who used to teach police use of force protocol. “He’s very calm and collected about what he’s doing.”

Muise said officers are trained to use a range of tactics, from talking to the suspect to deadly force, and this officer was using the less harmful range of those tactics.

“Calm, cool, collected,” Muise said of the Toronto police officer. “Canadians can be proud of what this officer did, be proud of the Toronto Police service that day.”

The commonality is not in the severity of the accusation, it’s in the lazy dismissiveness of the position.

Addressing positions without resorting to false categorisations of the holder isn’t hard, and it’s always the right thing to do.

the bottom line is that any recruit that goes in with these romanticized images of what a soldiers life is, and what it takes is pretty much wrecked in the first few weeks before you see any of the cool aspects or fun aspects or serious aspects of the life that you've chosen.

Pretty much any psycho that shows up with the thought of getting that license to kill, any person that thinks its an easy piecemeal path to manhood, any person that thinks that its going to be easy to learn how to form bonds doesn't last.

Its repetition, tough work, endless menial tasks, and fear inducing corrections by people that have seen every kind of person and knows who's going to get through and who's not.

Sure there are cases of killers with military backgrounds but they're the exceptions and not the rule, and most of them don't enter as killers or not jobs, the combination of PTSD, poor outboarding and poor post military help can create broken people.

I think me and a couple of others were pretty open in that thread that it wasn't the answer and he'd fail.

There are other better reasons to join the military. Running away from yourself isn't a good one, because yourself always catches up under scrutiny.

The French Foreign Legion was infamous for taking people running away from love, crime, anger and other things, but they still had a hard filter, and their training was designed to separate your past from the person that they wanted you to be, but if you couldn't hack it or were damaged, you spend about a year painting rocks and then they sent you home.

First and foremost, a lot of people are going to jump to conclusions right off the bat just based on the methods of the attacks. That's fine and a lot of people did and backed off of the position.

However at the same time, other people decided to jump in and make points and throw out accusations of islamiphobia and racism before the clouds cleared on this one as well. Both sides of the argument are entirely too guilty of jumping on things.

Even in this day of pretty much instant news delivery, people are going to jump the gun.

One side made the racist comments within the first couple pages of this thread. The rest of the posters jumped in to tell them to back off and wait until we get the facts.

There is no "both sides, many sides" in this. One side was immediately starting with the "oh great Muslims strike again" comments from the get go.

Our ask was to calm down with those comments while everyone pieces together what happened. And then of course they went silent until they were called out.
