I don't see any bias in the poll and thanks to Jiri for putting it up.

That said I am not sure how to answer. I am excited about next season and believe the team can only go up, but because I know nothing about Peters (and I'm not going to make evaluation based on someone's performance in a press conference) I am also on the wait and see side.

I fell somewhere between "cautiously optimist" and "love it". I like the hire

Cautiously optimistic for me.
I like the idea of a new coach rather than keeping the same guy (look north e=ng)
I like the idea that he coaches to the “new NHL” style, rather than some tired costly alternates.
I like that he can talk and address things, and seems to confront things better than GG. Time will tell but I wanted Sutter’s “kick em in the butt” personality with a Babcock mind for the game. We’ll see who the next hires are...

It really did not turn out to be a pump the tires poll.

Only 5% of the people voting Loved the choice for coach. That is a significant non-endorsement if I have every seen one.

More than 5% of the posters would love the Hamonic trade or the Flames signing Jagr.

I voted a little nervous where I really don't like it. I don't like it because I think there were less risky choices available and do not see Peters as a good fit for the core roster.

I wonder how many people actual like the choice for Coach? How many would have had Peters as their top 2 choices and would have been very disappointing if it wasn't him?

Cautious optimistic describes most posters on this board throughout the disastrous season just completed. That is the neutral state of the Flames Nation.

I won't "love" any coach until he actually does something for this team. To call my vote of "Cautiously Optimistic" a lack of an endorsement of Mr. Peters is inaccurate. I am pleased with the idea of him as coach, and now it is time for his team to perform.

The interviews certainly make a good first impression. Not that it really matters for me, I'm a very results-oriented person. But it's certainly better than a bad first impression

I also like that the organization seems to have put some extra effort into selling Peters to the fans. It's just smart given the negative fan reactions, and I like them being smart about this.

I'm optimistic. He said all the right things and came in very well prepared. I expect he'll bring in a solid group of assistants.

I suspect that Treliving is also going to make some hockey moves to address scoring.

I think next year is going to be an exciting time for Flames fans.

The success or failure of this coach will determine Tre's future with this club so I acknowledge that he has every right to select the coach he is most comfortable with.

That said, I have a hard time understanding why Tre did not even talk to anyone else or wait to see which coaches may become available.

You wouldn't actual love it had the Flames signed Gallant, Babcock or Quenneville or even Sutter or AV or Trotz as coach?

You likely are please with everyone in the Flames organization.. except for one or two people you would hope did better.

You just have a positive view of life... good for you You see the Flame glass of hockey goodness as a little full instead of almost empty.

Hopefully there is no more staring at feet after goals against.

No matter the reason, that drove me absolutely crazy.

They're monitors, not feet, and every coach looks at them. Get used to it.

I know that. But there was just something about the way that GG did it, he always looked so dejected.

In all seriousness, I don't mind criticism but the delivery of it sometimes sucks. Particularly when people start saying that it is because I'm trying to make the poll biased.

I have deployed surveys to thousands of people to help make real business decisions. I understand the need to make sure that things are as clear as possible. And I would never use this poll to make any actual decisions.
But sometimes more descriptive language helps to understand the emotional pulse of a group of respondents in a way that standard "agree/disagree" scales don't. As long as you understand that the data is directional only. It is a trade off.

I thought carefully about the scale, including ensuring there was equal answers across negative and positive.

Can people agree or disagree if it was perfect? Sure.
But I would suggest when people start to conclude that it was because I have some motivations to get biased results - I object. There is no point to doing a poll to produce biased results.

So it may not be exactly how others would have done it. But I think it provides an accurate and directional sense of how the fan base is feeling. And it seems like most people have found an answer that suits their emotional state. That was the goal.

So indeed I do care how people feel. I also think people are too quick to complain about things and do so sometimes in a manner that is more whiney than it is constructive.

To put it another way, everyone needs to pee on the fire to see what it smells like. Sometimes its better just to hold it in.
Sorry if I hit a nerve, Jiri. Don't think I'm whining. Don't think you are, either. Will leave it at that.

Get your assistants to do it!

I've ranted about this forever! The time staring at the screen should be spent talking to your players and getting them ready for their next shifts.

We gave up a ridiculous number of goals in short spans because our coach was too busy checking the ipad as opposed to prepping his next shift.

I know it sounds dumb, but it actually means a lot. After goals against players are down, its natural, get them ready to go.

Let your assistants check out the replay.

Its not even the pseudo-defeatist body language its the missed opportunity to rally your troops.

So the guy who is preparing the players for the next shift should be the only one who doesn't get to see what happened on the last shift? Sounds legit.

I guess you're just assuming that he wasnt watching the game. You know, as it was being played.

Yes this is the key. You just saw the play live. If there’s a question of interference or offside, I get it, but that’s the minority of goals. Like in football, most of the time it’s a coordinator who is instructing the head coach whether to challenge. The head coach needs to focus on preparing for the next play, and preparing his men as well.

I’m not ignorant as to why some coaches are looking down...I just think that there’s more often benefit to be found doing other things in that critical time as a head coach.

Voted hate it, but it is really less than hate. Peters is probably the third best option available right now, which seems like the correct choice for a franchise mired in middling mediocrity. Resigned acceptance would be a more accurate description of how I feel. I suspect he will get just a little less than the sum of the team's parts, which should be good enough for us to be either a wildcard team or just out of the playoffs. I doubt he gets more than the team's parts (home ice advantage in the playoffs).

I guess you're just assuming that the monitors are there for no reason, as clearly nobody needs any more information than they can see by watching the game as it is being played.

GG had no clue what he was doing. That's why he was always looking at the monitors.
