You know, I'm still not a fan of the hiring because I don't think we're in a position to take these types of chances at the moment...but he's definitely made a solid first impression.

He comes across as someone with authority and as a natural leader of men. I'm not sure I could ever say that about Gulutzan, which for me was always a red flag.

It may all be hot air in the end, but I already feel better about him then I ever did with the last guy.

Actions speak louder than words guys. Everyone talks about how they didn't have great high paid skilled guys in carolina.. You don't need a team of over paid guys to be a good team. vegas might be a fluke, but it is built with expendable players. Bill had a team with half decent players and did nothing with them.

Does Carolina have a single Marchessault or Fleury?

Fleury is known to be a little rough around the edges in the playoffs. he's playing great now yes, but don't forget he was also injured this season. and what about jeff skinner? and cam ward is no rookie.

Marc-Andre Fleury is 5x the goalie that Cam freaking Ward is.

Peters made Carolina into a good defensive team that had everything going for it except goaltending. I like what I'm hearing here

Im just saying that 4 years is a long time to spend with a team and still be below 500. im not 100% onboard with this guy yet. but maybe he will work out..

I don't know how this will work out, but Peters is a breath of fresh air compared to GG.

I never was inspired with confidence with Gully. He was vague and full of weird cliches. This is a total 180 from Peters spat out at us today. I want to know that a leader knows his stuff. It's clear this guy knows his stuff. Never once did I think that of Gully.

How that translates on the ice is obviously TBD, but I have confidence that this guy can walk in and milk his players of all their worth and they'll thank him for it at the end.

I caught bits of the presser and the 960 interview between my time spent crushing the dreams of a poor second-year biology major who wrote a very marginal term paper.

But I have to say this: Bill Peters makes a tremendous first impression. Wow.

I was frequently critical of numerous posters over the past two years who called out Gulutzan for his demeanour, and for how little confidence it inspired from the bench. For a long time now I have felt that such things should not matter, and have been sceptical about how big of a difference a strong persona can make. But this introduction to Bill Peters makes me feel like I have never been more wrong.

I was never a big fan of the Hartley hiring, but I will say this for him: his introductory press conference was amazing—perhaps the best I had ever heard. That is, until today. Bill Peters knocked this out of the park. He sounds confident, intelligent, and determined. He leaves me with little doubt that he knows what he wants and how to get it from his players. He talks about the importance of speed, pace, tenacity, hard work and good decision making as key ingredients to successful hockey, which I think were big issues with this Flames team from last year.

I think Treliving got this right. Welcome to Calgary, Bill Peters.

Dumb.

He took an underwhelming roster and kept them in playoff contention.

Doubt Scotty Bowman could have got that lineup into the playoffs.

Seems like whining for the sake of whining.

Some of you need to stop thinking Calgary is a destination of choice for any of the showcase or high profile talent in today's NHL - players, coaches or management. NONE of the high profile free agents are coming here anytime soon.

Peters is a logical choice and we'll see how it plays out.

I've known many people who can talk the talk but can't walk the walk. Guess we'll all find out if the Flames come out like they have been to start the season or they're gonna be a playoff bound team with a few minor tweaks. If anyone haven't noticed yet, GG have a winning record with the Flames and with Dallas.

I'm now convinced that coaches are just as much voodoo as goaltenders. nobody can project how they are going to perform from year to year, even the elite ones, because it's so situational.

where BP supposedly ranks in the coaching establishment by wins is not remotely important compared to how well he meshes with the club. you could have Babcock here with assistants Quinneville and Sutter, and if the chemistry is off then they're still doing lottery picks. I'm hopeful that we find out Bill was meant for the Flames, and the Flames were meant for him.
