Laviolette and Maurice coached the Canes in previous years. Look at their teams now. It does help that they have solid goaltending. For the Flames, if Peters can have above average goaltending, we can be a contending team.
I’m more excited about this hire than GG, our roster is way better than Carolina. Peters has a lot that he can work with.

Not a fan of this move at all considering the names that are out there. Best of luck Peters.

Then we're a couple years away IMO
yes smith was great for the first 50 games but then he burned out and got injured and he was hot garbage after he returned but he isn't an "elite" goalie hes absolutely in the second or third tier of goalies and would be best suited to being in a 1A /1B at this stage of his career.
If the Flames can get either of Gillies or Rittich to play like a 1B this year and take ~30 games from smith to get a 60% / 40% split and provide middle to above average goaltending then we should be in the playoffs.
I think we are waiting on a truly elite goalie the way winnipeg let Hellybuck develop and we need to make sure either Rittich or Gillies needs the opportunity to grow if we want to be a contender next year or truly the year after.

I can't help but feel that the Flames are falling into the same mediocre habits they've been doing for over 20 years now with this hire, but for the sake of everyone, I hope it works out.

I'm happy they have a coach in place prior to the draft and the free agency extravaganza.
Don't think the Flames should be big players in the UFA market, but if there are personnel decisions being made, good to have the coach(es) involved.

Honestly, I never have thought that coaching will be the problem, at least not in the future. We need Gillies/Rittich/Parsons to step up to solidify themselves as a backup at least. 2/3 did average jobs at that, giving me no confidence in them for next season. I hope it was just the jitters or just the lackluster team we had in front of them. But back to Peters, I bet we all come to like him, but find a hole in the forward/defense/goaltending... My money would be on goaltending, especially if we receive the Smith from the last quarter of the season. Yes, I know he was injured, but it was still concerning nonetheless.

Im cautiously optimistic about peters because he can't be worse than GG at any rate.
but yeah I definitely agree that goaltending is likely our most glaring risk of regression for this season.

once again if this is true, it does make you wonder how long and extensive the process to find a new coach was.
on the surface it looks like it took a couple of days, but i'd assume tre likely called petie two weeks ago to have a "hypothetical" conversation.

Well. I've gotten the complaints out of my system for now. Nothing to do but wait anymore. Cant say I'm hopeful, but as always I hope I'm wrong about my negative expectations.

I think it's very important now that whoever we bring in as powerplay coach, that he has an actual history of a successful PP, unlike Cameron.

I think many of you are failing to read between the lines when you keep bringing up the hiring process.
It seems pretty obvious that Peters becoming available, combined with the team missing the playoffs led to this.
Bottom line, Gulutzan was fired because Peters became available. Peters is Trelivings guy.
Now we are going to find out if BT has hitched his wagon to the right horse.

Treliving is lucky. You almost never get to hire a second coach. Hopefully this one works out.
Im all for having a more hard arsed guy run this team, I think the players need that.
These guys have to be ready for work every night. I sincerely hope we don't hear "We just weren't ready" every second game from now on.

Peters posted a record of 137-138-53 in four seasons behind the Hurricanes’ bench, including a 36-35-11 mark in 2017-18.
During his 4 years Carolina did not finish better than 5th in their own division.
Wish him the best hopefully Peters is the right fit here but after 2019 if he isn't Treliving 100% should own it no more excuses and be fired.

The coaching search does feel a bit rushed on the surface, but it's quite possible they reached out to Darryl months ago and he said 'no thanks'. It's well established that Tippett doesn't see eye to eye with Malone, and obviously Tre does, so it's not hard to see why Tippett isn't a fit. A quick call to AV could determine that he isn't interested, or has other teams he prefers. I find Kruger interesting as a candidate, but he does have a job already, in another country and another sport, so it's easy to see why he might not be a fit. Suddenly you're left with hoping another team fires someone you want in the next few weeks or going with Peters.
It's easy to see how this could come together quickly, when all it takes is a couple quick phone calls to reduce the candidates to only one name.

Don't get this comment. So, when Treliving hired Gulutzan two seasons ago, he didn't choose 'his guy'?

After reading all the information here I hope he is Mike Babcock 2.0 than Glen Gulutzan 2.0. At least we have something to see upcoming season.

I'm confident in saying that Brad called more than one person and didn't make the decision in two days. They've probably been looking for a long time now.

Given that would be blatant tampering, that is a tremendously awful assumption.
